Starting to look at getting a flat top from Shavemac. Any experience with Finest vs. D-01 2 Band? Thanks for your comments.
Thinking about having Rudy Vey make me a brush with a flat top knot and believe he was talking D-01 and it upped the price quite a bit. Do they make a flat top in finest?
If you don't like any of the Handles offered on the Shavemac Expert Menu, you can request any of the Stock Handles be set with the knot of your choice, the Americana & Clear Acrylic Handle #163 from the "Gently Brush" category are pretty nice.
Use "Contact Us" tab and send Bern an e-mail with the type/ # of Handle, Hair Shape, Grade, Loft & Knot specifications if you want one of the Stock Handles.

The Finest knots are fine and comparable to the good batches of Simpson's Best, but the D01 2-band knots are stellar. I am going to eventually order a 22-24mm fan shaped brush in D01, but it will have to wait until next year. Gotta take care of the kids Christmas lists before I go and splurge on myself.

I sure like my DO1 2 band flat top, though I'm not sure it's my favorite. I also have a DO1 3 band fan but it's for sure one DO1 or the other. Here's the flat top, 20mm with a 42mm loft.

Oscar-could you go into why it may not be your favorite? Sounds like you like the D01. I've found that the biggest brush I have, a New Forest Tubby 2 (about 28mm knot), is a greta size. That being said, I thought if I gave a flat top a spin, it could be a great brush for me (more badger on the face thing).
I've had both a d01 2-band and finest in flat top. The d01 was surprisingly soft with decent backbone while the finest was soft as well but not as soft (very similar to a nice Simpson in best, not the overly scritchy stuff) while having a bunch more backbone. Both were set with a loft at around double the knot size. Sometimes I would prefer one over the other (the desire for softer or scrubbier would be what influenced my decision between the two).
I seem to like the brush I used last the best. Both knots are excellent, IMO. I do like the DO1 the best of all the knots I've used, I just can't make up my mind if I like the 3 band or 2 band the best. The knot in the pic is 20mm, the lid of the shaving soap is 5 inches in diameter to give a bit of perspective. I can't imagine how big a 28mm flat top would be but it would be huge. I've been toying with the idea of making a 24mm or 25mm in a DO1 3 band fan, I think I'd only go bigger than that with a bulb style knot.
For the flattop, I would recommend only the D01 2-band hair.

Looks like D01 2band
From my experience with Shavemac finest a few mm of loft can make or break the brush. I would only order through email with Bernd. I have owned four in finest and love this hair, but if the loft is to high over 48 on the 24mm knot they do not work good for me. Just received my d01 and would cast my vote that direction. I do not have any flat top experience.
