Shave Sticks - the best invention of the 20th century?

I just got a couple of shave sticks from Rudy Vey. I wasted no time taking a hot shower, soaking my brush, then rubbing the Palmolive stick all over my face. A little suspiscioulsy I started to work my face with the damp brush and...as if by magic...this thick, rich, cushiony, slick, manly-smelling lather grew into a frothy goodness. No cup, no bowl, no water mixture mishaps just easy, foamy goodness.

I know I have a while to go before I am a "Shave Stick Samurai"...so for now, I'll happily remain a Shave Stick Grasshopper :).

I've had the same experience with a Kell's stick, which comes in a nice plastic tube like a stick deodorant. Great for traveling too.

They are pretty good (and you do get really nice lather from the Tallow based ones), but best invention of the 20th Century has to be the Beer Hat!

I take a shave stick with me when I travel. They are very convenient and a perfect way to lather on the road.

I recently purchased a Palmolive Shave Stick from Phil at Bullgoose.....I love it, and will soon be ordering an Arko Stick from him & give that a whirl. I'm finding I like the stick better than whipping up a mug of lather, and the Palmolive has a great scent.

I prefer to make a nice, thick lather on top of the puck...I would say it is at about 70% suitable when I take it to my face, I just have to add a bit more water during the face lathering.

Someone, feel free to correct me, but I'm pretty sure they're the best invention of the 19th century.

In that case I want to change my statement slightly. It was the 2nd best invention of the 19th century...right behind Sam Colt's revolver!

I don't know...

It's a great invention indeed! Love shave sticks... I have 3 and 1 in the mail that I didn't try yet... I haven't tried the ones mentioned in the OP but love the sticks!

I've been using a La Toja stick for travelling and absolutely love it takes up no space and works a treat must try some other brands at some point but this one seems like it will last forever
