Shave Soap mugs

Newbie here, so not sure if this is the right place for this. Been shaving for around 10 weeks now and love it. I use Mike's natural soaps in the tin, but I always create a mess and a bunch of lather ends up on the counter top/floor. So, now that I'm low on soap, I ordered more. However, he only had a block of the scent I wanted. I was thinking of just cutting the block in half and putting it in the tin, but I would have the same issue with getting the lather everywhere.

So, I'm looking into different types of mugs, but there are quite a few. I consider metal, since my brush has a chrome handle, but I'm worried about rust/tarnishing. I want one that is deep and has a lid. But I really don't want to spend a lot of $$$. Can I get some advice/ recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

You have the "Big Lots" stores there? They have a coffee mug that will work like a dream, it's low, it's wide, and it's $2.00 or so. Mike's soap is soft enough to reshape the way you want it, to fit the bottom perfectly. Last January, I had one shave soap mug, a pyrex glass one from so far back I can't remember any more, with a bad chip in the rim, and my brush was really looking sad. I found an advertising mug for some real estate firm in a Thrift Shop for 75 cents, and that made two shave soap mugs. It has the same shape as the one Big Lots is selling.

I keep the fruit flies out with the plastic lid off some product similar to hot chocolate.

Try pushing on it with your fingers. I have no experience with it but have read on here that it is soft enogh to press into the bottom of a mug. If that does not work you can shred it with a grater and then press it into the bottom of your mug/bowl.
There is a nice tutorial at the top of this section in the info post by Jim.

Thanks for the advice. My wife came home this evening with a hand-hammered aluminum bowl from West Elm. It was only $5 and looks really nice!

any tips for reforming soap?
Nice looking bowl., but I can't tell how big it is, as no dimensions are given. Could you please measure the width across the top and the depth. Thanks.

Oops, just noticed the where the dimensions are provided on the website.

Get a cheese grater. "Mill" the soap into the bowl. Wet with hot water and compress with whatever comes to hand.

With most other soaps I would agree with you, but Mike's consistency is more like RazoRock. It's super-soft, you can really just press it into the cup or bowl with your hands.

I have one like this (but from Napa soaps) and it looks/works great. And the price at Mama bear can't be beat. Of course, while you are there you will no doubt be tempted by their other products!

For the others, 4" diameter and 2" high. Works great and looks even better!
