Shave Secret

So, I've been using Shave Secret Shave Oil for a few days.

I searched the Forum and I see that some people like Shave Oil and some don't but I just wanted to post that Shave Secret has been nothing less than Life Changing for me.

I tried it alone and also under Proraso Shave cream in a 40's SuperSpeed and with a Tech. Used an Iridium Blade.

I've had the best shaves of my life these last few days. Smooth, Irritation Free. No Blood. Its been amazing for me.

How is it that at 42 years old, I'm only now learning how to shave properly.

what do you do just rub a little, drop or two on the hands and rub it on your face? is it scented?

Wet face with Hot Water
Drop 4 drops of oil in palm of hand and rub hands together to coat your palms
Massage entire beard area of face and neck to work oil into skin
Splash a bit of water on face and Shave. As needed, reapply Water.
No additional oil is needed.

This oil has a bit of Clove and Menthol in it.

Basically, yes. Wet your face first with hot/warm water. Apply a few drops to your palms, and rub hands together. Then, rub your palms around on your face and neck. Then, splash your face and neck with a little more water. Now, apply your shave cream/soap, and shave as usual. Shave oils make for a great prep for your face, plus they add a little more slip, and act as a buffer between your face and the razor blade. For your touch-ups, try using just the shave oil to do your final touch-up passes (just make sure you have rinsed your face clear of all lather first).

Yes, the Shave Secret oil is heavily scented... has a spice/heavy clove scent.

I used shave secret for awhile before finding true wet shaving. I was on a quest to end my ingrowns and was trying everything. It worked pretty well for me but then I found out how to use shave soaps and a straight razor and stopped using it. I did however use a drop in my palm with witch hazel for my post shave when I was starting out and getting razor burn. It soothed my burn a lot but as I got better I didn't use it at all.

I'm not a big fan of shave oil as replacement for lather. I felt it lacked the cushioning ability of a nice lather and it tended to make razor cleaning more of a chore. However, oil as a pre-shave treatment has more merit in my book.

I don't know if this applies, but I use olive oil occasionally in place of shaving oil. (I've never used shaving oil so I don't know how it compares to olive oil)

I've read that the same results can be achieved by using Olive Oil. I haven't tried that yet but I will when this bottle of Shave Secret is used up in a couple months.

Using ShaveSecret Oil by itself gave me a terrific shave, but it gunked up my razor something fierce. It would not rinse off. I had to toss out the blade after just one shave, break the razor down and scrub it with a toothbrush.

Using it as a pre-treatment to regular lather worked out better ... but I got the best results by using it as an additive to cream or soap, just by putting two or three drops of oil on top of the cream and whip it up like normal. It made the lather shinier, and slicker.

It also does nicely as an additive to ASB.

I experimented with PSOs for a couple of months, using SSO, T&H, AoS, C.O.Bigelow, and a homebrew concoction. Overall, though, I don't think it made enough of a difference to keep using it. Now, I only break out the PSO when I have a lot of time to experiment, and I want to indulge myself in a super-luxurious shave.

The Shave Secret is made of menthol & clove oil. I use it every once in a while when I want a little extra menthol with a shave. It also works great on a straight razor blade to keep the rust off. One little drop on the blade will keep it ready for its next shave.:thumbup1:
