Hi all, looking for some shaving cream recommendations for those that have sensitive skin around the neck and ingrown hairs. I have been using Proraso Sensitive and I'm thinking about trying something else.
I'm not a dermatologist, but it seems to me that ingrown hairs are due more to cutting stubble below the skin surface than to the type of shaving cream you use. I noticed a reduction in the frequency of ingrown hairs when I switched to using a DE razor (as opposed to a multi-blade cartridge razor). But these are only my observations, and we can't offer medical advice on a forum. Best bet would be to ask your own dermatologist.
Irritation on your neck can be affected by your shaving cream, if you have sensitive skin, you're best bet is something unscented, like Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort. It's a larger tub than TOBS and others, note that when looking at price.
Your ingrown hairs are going to be affected by your razor and blade more than the cream. And you don't need a doctor, most likely, plenty of men here have experience with that. They'll chime in.
Years ago I suffered with ingrown hairs, I went to a dermatologist, he asked if I was stretching or pulling my skin tight when shaving and I said yes. Anyway don't do that.
I knew we'd have great tips in here for this! ^^^^ You may get some more. I don't have the issue so I won't suggest any razor or blade because those who have overcome it will steer you better. Good luck!
For neck irritation, try that cream, though, see if that helps. People here react to all sorts of different things, bentonite clay, lanolin, some scents -- others, like me, have lizard skin and can use anything. But if the Truefitt stuff alleviates the irritation, you can stick with it, or begin experimenting with what works for you and what does not.
Get yourself some tea tree oil (100%) not a blend. This helped me immensely. I still have the original bottle I purchased years ago-it's about halfway empty but I haven't used it in years.
The tea tree oil will work better than creams designed for sensitive skin. More than likely, tea tree oil has been added to those creams.
