Shave advice for grappling/wrestling?

I find myself having to pace my shaving as far away from possible from Jiu Jitsu training just to avoid irritation. I think the feeling of a coarse gi mixed with sweat slowly scraping ATG up neck stubble from the night before feels a lot worse than actually getting choked there. :thumbdown It looks like of the guys at the gym shave as little as possible for that reason.

Lately I've been cleaning the neck with a little bay rum before and after hitting the mat to make sure things are as clean as possible and avoid bumps. I also usually just shave WTG when I know I'll be on the mat soon. Any other suggestions? Does anyone else's desire for a good shave ever conflict with physical exercise?

It's better to shave after exercising than before.

But don't let that keep you from using Lilac Vegetal as a part of your psych ops.

I found that I had to avoid shaving a day or so before a training or I would get a nasty rash sometimes, but not so much from the gi. Most of the guys at the dojo did the same thing.

I know a few chefs that complain about their uniforms doing the same thing. They all tend to shave after work.

However the culinary school they went to required a clean shave for every class. The instructors would even feel up their faces to check (not everyone's every time obviously). One aspiring chef had freakishly fast stubble growth. So he kept a razor in his knife kit to touch up during lunch break. There was a lot of bitching about neck rashes back then.
