Sharks or other recommendations

Hi All,

I started DE shaving in August of 2010 and have had the best time, no cuts and I love shaving so much more now even after being a wet shaver all my life.

Using an Edwin Jagger DE89 Chrome, I have tried the following:

1. Personna Platinum
2. Astra Platinum
3. Derby
4. Timor
5. Super Iridium
6. Feather

My favorite and best blade for my shaving is the feathers, I love them. Also like the super iridiums but just from the 6 brands I have tried.

Came across 300 sharks at a price of £15 delivered and was wondering how they compare to Feathers and Iridiums?

Also is there any other blade that shave like the feathers or compare to the feathers or iridiums? I just feel I want to buy something new and maybe in bulk and will probably buy 100 feathers if there is nothing else to look at.

Thanks for all the help and guidance!

Wishing you all a happy new year!

I really like the Shark SS. They give a great shave for the price ( I use them in a Superspeed) and are a good blade IMO. They are not as sharp as Feathers however.

Thank you Cliff Porter and rm71.

So many conflicting reports on the Sharks :001_huh: I guess I might just try a small pack and see how they go and maybe try some Kai blades which I read are a nice shave.

Yes try a couple first. Even if you buy in bulk and don't like them, you should have no trouble selling them here.

There is a gentleman that posts in a different forum that does analysis and reviews of many DE blades. He of course shaves with them, but first views the edges under a microscope. The only blade he puts up near the Feather is the Gillette 7`OClock Sharp Edge, yellow package. Might be worth a look.

I find that the Shark SS is my "go to" blade. It is almost as sharp as a Feather, but seems to allow a margin of error that the Feather does not have.

My only complains for the Shark are they do not seem to last for more than 3 uses and that there is some rubbery glue that holds the blade in the paper. It does not effect the shave, but it will stick to the razor head.

And...Sharks have a blue shark on the box...How cool is that?

The Shark Stainless is my personal favorite. Maybe not as sharp as a Feather, but i can't say the Feather gives me a better shave. Sharks are SMOOTH.

I have the same razor and settled on Astra blades based on price and performance. Although, I did really like the Feather and Iridiums as well. Gillette yellows are good too. I hated the sharks and have a few in my medicine cabinet. Send me a PM with your address, if it's in the US, and I'll send you a few sharks to try.

The Feather and the EJ89L is a match made in heaven for me. Nothing beats it is my opinion. I also use the Bolzano Superinox Inossidabile. Not quite as sharp as a Feather but slightly more forgiving. The Shark SC is also a nice blade. Slightly less sharp again, but even more forgiving. I use the latter when time is not on my side and I need a fairly risk free shave. I've settled on these three blades but if it was a choice of just one blade, Feathers all the way!!:thumbup1:

If you like Feathers and Iridiums it looks like you like the extra sharpies. I don't believe Iridiums are made anymore so you might have to stick with Feathers. You might like Kais or Gillette 7 O'clocks. They have a reputation for being very sharp as well.

I haven't tried the Sharks yet but they're supposed to be more like Derbys/Personnas in terms of sharpness.

The Feather and Iridium blades are two of my favorites. The other two that give a similar shave are the medical prep Personnas and Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge (Yellows).

Thank you Cliff , rm71, Sfbagger, Alegre, Drummer2177, bvance554, RockyNomad, Optometrist, Monkeyboy, shavervinnie, jtadmin and mdevine

Really appreciate the help and the advice with new blades to try to think I am going to buy a pack of each of the following, based on your recommendations and some research:

KAI, Voskhod, Silver Star, Gillette 7 O'clock, Sputniks, Bolzano Superinox and Sharks in SS and SC and Persona Medical Prep - its fun to experiment :)

Sad to hear the Iridiums are no longer made though.

Thank you so much for the kind offer too RockNomad, but I live in Ireland, very kind of you to offer though and much appreciated.

Looking forward to trying out some new blades! :)

The feathers will take some beating I guess.

Shopping time!! :001_smile

Try others of the Iridiums' stablemates: besides the 7 O'clock yellows and greens, I have found the Astra Super Plats nice enough to buy a full carton. Got a wonderful deal on them, 100 for U.S.$0.1485 delivered to my box. For that kind of bread, I could use 'em just once, but they're good for at least 3 shaves by those who use 'em.

Also well-regarded are the Turkish-language-labeled Perma Sharp also from that same plant. So many options ...

Enjoy the search!

Another plug for Bolzano. Coincidently, paired with my DE89, too. Hmmm, with several blades getting endorsements, maybe it's the razor?

I must know where you got 100 Astras for $0.1485! That is like $0.001485 per blade. What a steal! :biggrin1: Sorry...I couldn't resist.
