Shark blades - how many shaves??

I bought Shark blades because of their supposed longevity and smoothness. Some people say they last a week or more. The first 3 shaves were very good. During the 4th shave it wasn't quite as smooth and the razor kind of dragged a little. I found myself using pressure ATG and experienced some irritation and redness. It was still a close shave with no cuts, but inconsistent. My cheeks were very smooth but had a little stray stubble here and there. And several passes on my chin didn't seem to cut as close as usual.
I'd like to know how many shaves other Shark users are getting from one blade? And I would welcome any other comments and opinions about Sharks vs other blade possibilities. (I was thinking about Derby, but I've been seeing some negative stuff recently regarding inconsistent quality from blade to blade). Or, maybe I should be happy with 3 to 4 good shaves from a Shark??

Thanks everyone, now I know that my 3 to 4 Shark shaves seems to be the norm. Just out of curiosity, I'm going to try corking and stropping one to see if it makes any difference.

Let me amend the five or six a little. I was going seven days, but sometimes on the seventh day I'd get some tugging...and they are so cheap I thought, "self, why bother" and now change at five or six.

I'm being profligate 'cause they are kind of cheap.

I don't notice any real difference on #3. But because of the quantity I just change it. I think I could go five if I was on a budget.

The first Shark Super Stainless I tried was in a Tech, using mostly good quality cream like Body Shop. Took it up to eight shaves, the most I've had from any blade. Seven from an Iridium was second most.

Now when I put one in a Super Adjustable, I take it to six shaves, which gets me through the week, and move on to the next one. Some of those shaves are with Old Spice sensitive in the can, which doesn't soften the beard as much, and causes faster wear on the blade.

I can count on five shaves from a Shark in my Parker 82R (pictured here). I tried one in my Gillette Slim and only got three good shaves from it. Not sure if it had something to do with the razor, or I just happened to get a blade that was inferior to the others.

I rate the Shark ahead of the Derbys and about on par with Crystals and Red Pack Personnas.

2-3 shaves before I notice it not getting the hairs under my chin. For those, I really need a blade sharper than the devil himself.

Considering you can easily get them for $15/100count and less if you go larger quantities, there really is absolutely no reason to try to stretch it out much past the 2-3 shaves if you don't want to. Even at 2.5 shaves/blade, you're looking at a year's worth of shaves for less than $25.

$25 will buy you 8 Fusion blades btw.

I've been shaving every other day and the last time I shaved was number 3 on the same Shark blade. It gave me an adequate shave all things considered. There was a little pulling and skipping on my lower neck and some stubble left immediately under my chin. I was using a slim adjustable set on 3 with Bigelow creme. I think I'll keep to my original routine-2 and out. At $0.16 a blade, I can afford tossing it for $0.08 a shave. BTW, in case anyone is interested, the best price I have found is through howard1616 on ebay (he is also a member here). 100 blades (20 packages, 5 blades per package) for $16.88 + Free shipping. They arrived in about 4 days from when I ordered it. He also has Shark SS for I think a buck and a half cheaper per 100 compared to the Super Chromes. Just a FYI.

:lol::lol: Guess we're on the same page in outlook on usage per price and shave results. Awesome.:lol::lol:

I use Shark Super Chromes in a Parker 82R and I get around 4 shaves per blade. I want to try some other blades, especially some Feathers, but I think I am going to order a 100 Sharks after the holidays because I really like them, that and box has a picture of a shark on it!

I change after 3 shaves with any blade. Sooner if I feel any pulling. Waiting until the blade is dull makes my face sore for a few days and not worth the aggravation.Three shaves divided by what you pay for a blade is really quite cheap. JMHO

Very nice blades, and the Crystals and Sharks are the best combo of sharp and comfortable for me. For both blades I get 4 easy shaves, and then touchup starts taking more time effort. I just quit at 4 now. I have grown to like Derbys as well, even though I hated them when I started. Everyone should try Feathers.
