shaping horn scales

So finals are over and I have 2 weeks off and a bunch of requests for razors, strops, brushes, knives... So I am fully expecting to spend most of my break in the garage working on projects. Today I was working on an old Rogers wedge that is getting some horn scales - my first set of horn scales. Now I've made knife handles out of antler, made dozens of antler brush handles and that stuff stinks, and that's what I expected the horn to smell like as well. Boy was I wrong! That stuff is absolutely DISGUSTING!!! I can handle most smells but that one was almost too much for me. My wife was inside and called me because she could smell it inside and didn't want to come outside to tell me to knock it off... Seriously, that crap is nasty. I was quite surprised at how easily it cut/ground and I think the scales will turn out really well, I am just still shocked at how foul smelling that crap is...

I have enough horn for about 6 razors and I don't know if I'm going to be able to buy any more after that because of the stink. I think I'll just stick to wood!

It all stinks,I just slabbed 8 lbs of Ivory for a gun grip guy here in town.
Wife said I may have to burn my clothes to get rid of the stench, sure is purty when it's all polished tho:)
