Shampoo that WILL NOT promote hair loss?

I know that many of you claim that the active ingredient in most shampoos, sodium lauryl sulfate, causes hair loss. Give me a list of shampoos that either do not contain this ingredient or you have found will not worsen hair loss. Will any shampoo promote hair gain?

chagrin valley soap offers several shampoo bars, among which are a few that contain rosemary and nettle and other herbals which are supposed to be good for hair loss.

I've used their bars for some time now and am pleased with the product, tho I can't say anything about hair density (I'm just starting to thin a little on top) cures.

see here for ordering & info. I've used samples of the Rosemary/Mint, Herb Garden, & Nettle and have liked them all. Those are the once recommended for hair loss, but there are others you may like as well. Hair loss is a complicated issue with many causes, but my barber recommended getting away from products containing SLS to start with. My scalp was also having dry/itchy issues which have now been solved.

There are also shampoos (Nisim, & MiN come to mind) which I think do contain SLS, but also contain basically vitamins and saw palmetto which are puported to be good to block DHT in the scalp as DHT is thought to cause hair loss as well. They may or may not be worth the price. Oral saw palmetto may be helpful too, according to some, at least.

What is this about hair loss?

I've never heard talk about SLS promoting hair loss. And without further investigating it, I'd hedge a bet there isn't much merit to the theory. The people you see with full heads of hair...women included...what do you think they're using to keep their hair clean? Odds are, the vast majority of them use an SLS-based shampoo. I'd look to other factors - genetics primary among them - to blame for one's alopecia before worrying about if it's SLS that's doing it.

I don't buy that SLS causes hair loss, but if you're looking for SLS-free shampoo, check out products by Modern Organic Products (MOP) and John Masters Organics. MOP products are significantly cheaper, but they're both good lines.

Neither have I. The SLS scares can probably be traced back to lobbyists for organic produce and other organic products.

Also, I don't think there's any research that proves shampoo ingredients can "block" DHT action. We don't have any ingredients that can actually penetrate below the follicle to the hair shaft where DHT is active in balding men.

Billy Jealousy makes a shampoo (Fuzzy Logic) and conditioner that is supposed to promote hair growth or hair strenghtining. Don't know if it has SLS or not. Also, not so sure about this claim, but it is a very nice shampoo/conditioner. One of the best that I've personally tried.

Sigh bald fat guys always gotta have something to blame besides themselves, amirite?

Like my ex gf's dad, its the beers fault not his for drinking it!

Embrace the thinning hair and don't sweat it. Once mine gets thin enough that it looks like I'm fighting it I'll just go BBC (Bald by Choice) and embrace it. Let it be part of who you are NOT WHO YOU ARE.

Well said, I would have to agree with the above posts as well. I would just use what makes your head and scalp feel good.

Try nizoral. It's promoted for dandruff, however, there quite a bit of evidence that it also helps with hair loss. Check it out on google, for a few studies etc.
