Septic Tank Companies

Geez, what a nightmare. Our house recently sold and I have an old septic tank I need to have filled in before closing. I've called fifteen different septic tank companies. Left messages with eight of them last week and still haven't gotten a return phone call. Thought I hit pay dirt a few days ago when I had one agree to show up at ten this morning to start work. He still hasn't shown up. This must be a great racket to be in if you can be this careless in the way you treat customers.

That's so frustrating, and I keep running into it... I *want to give them my money*, and they act like they don't need it.

My old buddy Jimmy Ferris can fix you up.

BTW, that IS a true story. I've known Jimmy for 30 some odd years.

I called the original guy who was going to do the work yesterday during the afternoon. I asked him if he forgot something this morning, then that "Oh crap" seemed to hit him. I told him in exchange for him wasting my time, he lost the job. I called through the list of fifteen or so again and had two return my call. Ended up getting one to finally come out and take care of the tank. I'm almost tempted to buy a vac truck and a small track hoe and start doing this on the side. If a half-hearted attitude towards business can still keep these guys going, someone with even an average work ethic should be a millionaire in no time.

Not to make excuses for them, but they are in the septic tank business. If there wasn't something wrong with them, they'd find something else to do.

That thought had crossed my mind. However, they are in a profession they chose for whatever reason. If you've got to work, why not maximize your earnings? I'm not talking sixteen hour days, just returning phone calls and doing what you say you're going to do.

uh, not to sound TOO cynical, there is a reason they are in that business. However even turd wranglers should behave in a professional manner. Don't take it personally, quite a lot of customer service is very poor these days.

We had our septic field replaced a few years back. I had a few companies out for estimates before getting one with common sense. There are some good guys in the business but in my experience they are the exception and not the rule.

So you guys are saying this is how to be #1 in the #2 business . . .

With the way these guys treat their customers it's no wonder their business is going in the hole . . .
