Sensor Excel Alert!

After having lived through the demise of good DE razors and blades, and the demise of Gillette Techmatic razors and blades at brick and mortar stores, it now appears that Sensor Excels are on their way out as well! I switched back to the DE over a year ago (based on discovering Badger and Blade) and have been getting my gear on the internet. However, our of curiosity, I have been watching the Sensor Excel products as they were my choice before I switched. And in my small corner of the world they have all but disappeared! No razors, very few blades! Disposables only. Sensor users, by warned!! You are going to have to head for the net!

Thanks for the warning. The Sensor is still on my list to try. I have original handles for the GII, Contour and Mach3, the only one missing in the collection is the Sensor. I have no intention of adding the Fusion, though .

I use a Sensor 3 razor for my head (for the beard I prefer a Merkur HD ;) ) and I've also noticed that Sensor blades are beginning to be difficult to find (like GII blades some years ago).

Last month, after not finding them in my usual mall, I bought some disposable Sensor razors... and I found that they are easily disassembled ! So now I use disposable Sensor blades on my trusty Sensor 3 handle :)

I noticed the same thing, but are the disposable blades spring loaded like the Sensor Excel? Someone from these boards asked me that very question, but I couldn't answer as I don't have any Sensor Disposables left.

1st post...Welcome to B&B!

While it's possible that some of your local places might be cutting back on the variety of products they sell, I highly doubt Gillette is going to stop making Sensor cartridges.

Gillette still makes Trac II, and Atra carts, and those are older products than the Sensor.

Also it makes little economical sense for Gillette to stop production on the older cartridges: they spend no money marketing these products, but yet still make a high profit margin on them. Also, anyone who has no yet switched over to a newer product, is at this point unlikely to do so.

Same thing is happening where i live,
my local pharmacys doesn't carry anymore the razor but they do have the cartridges.
The only place that i found that is still selling the razor is Wal-Mart.

So that's why Gillette brand Sensor cartridges were on sale for $1.27 a 5-pack at the grocery store last month. I picked up about 3 because I still use a Sensor to shave *ahem* "other" places than my face.

I'd never be able to use a Sensor on my face again...I used to...and had no idea what I was missing (good shaves) until I found the DE.

Some of us are just natural hoarders and stockpilers. I have a huge stockpile of my favorite injector blades, likely a lifetime supply. I've also got a pretty big stock of generic Atra-compatible cartridges. Considering that I use them only rarely, I'll probably never run out of those, either. The Atra is a good cartridge razor, though.

I do have a Gillette Sensor handle and a package of cartridges, which I'll get around to trying eventually, but I doubt if I'll feel a need to stockpile that also.

The cartridge of the disposable Sensor 3 I bought if identical (besides color) to the normal Sensor 3 cartridges (i.e. 3 spring mounted blades), and it feels the same on my head :)

Thank you !

For some reason, for the last few weeks, many local brick and mortar retail outlets that I've visited have had barely any razors or carts at all. I'm talking about grocery stores and chain pharmacies (CVS, etc.). Plenty of disposables, though.

Plastic = Petroluem-based

Maybe?

Another benefit of using DE razors and blades.
