Sending fragrance/aftershave via USPS?

I was told at a USPS post office today you cannot sent such things via the mail. Now, is this some new regulation or was I given some seriously incorrect information?

The lady told me I need some kind of special stamp to do so, and I didn't have it...so, I have nooo idea

Hey Zack: I have never heard of such a thing. Have you tried calling one of the supervisors to verify this info?

Not yet, but I am going to try again tomorrow since I'll be near there. No offense to the lady there, but she seems like she immigrated here, and the only time I sent something with her there was a foreign package...so maybe she assumed.

343.22 Requirements for Combustible Liquids
The following conditions apply:

  1. [*=left]International Mail. Combustible liquid is prohibited.
[*=left]Domestic Mail via Air Transportation. Combustible liquid is permitted if the material can qualify as an ORM–D material and meet the criteria in Exhibit 343.22. Packaging Instruction 3B in Appendix C must be followed, as applicable.
[*=left]Domestic Mail via Surface Transportation. Combustible liquid is permitted if the material can qualify as an ORM–D material and meet the criteria in Exhibit 343.22. Packaging Instruction 3B in Appendix C must be followed, as applicable

When you give the package to the person at the post office, they ask you if there is anything liquid, fragile, hazardous or perishable. If you don't lie about the aftershave and say yes, there is something liquid, they will ask more questions about what it is. Personally, I have shipped AS before and just don't say anything about it. Not too worried about a plastic bottle of aftershave packed well in a box.

Well, I am going to lie next time. They obviously have no idea what they are talking about.

Hey Zack: Keep us posted.

Will do! It was pretty annoying when they told me that. It made no sense to me. I am assuming the lady had no idea what she was tallking about. She mentioned I needed a special kind of stamp that I didn't have. I had no idea what was up

I am a pretty honest person normally, and I fully understand why they ask the question, however, there is very little real danger in a bottle of Aftershave igniting while in transit. I always answer the question no, yes it's a lie, but since my actions have no real danger involved, I don't see the harm in this.

Only once have I ever been called on this.

I was shipping a full sealed bottle of Florida Water, and there was enough room in the bottle for it to slosh around. The post office attendant indicated he knew there was liquid in the package. I explained it was a brand new, sealed from the factory container, and had little possibility of leaking. He shipped it on it's merry way, with no special restrictions. :biggrin1:

aftershaves are considered combustible,so if you want to mail it ,when the clerk asks if you have liquid ,say "yes"...next question always answer "acne lotion" or " bubble bath"...they are not going to rip the package open and search it....bubble wrap it so you are 100% sure it will not leak or shatter.

WCS will not ship alcohol-containing items except by Fed-Ex.
They have had issues with even local deliveries being delayed for a week or more.
It's like some postal employees view the ORM-D tag as Kryptonite.
