Semogue SOC vs 1305

I have a badger that I like, a Vulfix 2006 and now I would also like to get a boar to replace my VDH. At twice the price is the SOC worth it? Can anyone compare the two, pro and con?

the SOC can be had for under $30 shipped to US daily from the UK, you just have to wait 2 weeks to get it, but yes, it's worth the price.

no issues with chipping handle, bigger knot, natural bristles (not died with the badger band).

the SOC is a pure class brush.

I used the same two boars in tandem for a while. The SOC, for me, is a decidedly superior brush, all around. The 1305 is a great brush, mind you, and you won't be displeased with the purchase. But for dollar, the SOC is easily worth the extra money. With the 1305, I always caught myself thinking, "hmm, I wonder what that SOC is like ..." Since getting the SOC, I have never even pondered buying another boar.

I also own both and agree with the above. However, the 1305 remains in my rotation and is a damn fine brush in its own right.

You'll occasionally see an SOC come up on the B/S/T for $25 shipped. I picked up both of mine this way.

Or you can get a new SOC boar for about $30 including shipping from shaving.ie. It generally takes about a week for stuff to get from Ireland to Chicago. I've been very happy with their service, and I really like my SOC boar.

Well, you guys finally broke me. I love my 1305 and have been considering an SOC for a while now. Now it's on the way from VintageScent. :)

I have three Semogue boar brushes, 1305, 830 and SOC. My advice is that you choose the SOC, or alternatively pick up a 830, which I feel more dense than the 1305. This said, the 1305 is not a bad brush at all, but I hope that I have given you a little perspective on my view on these brushes. I hope you will be happy with your new brush, whichever you choose.

Just note that Vintagescent is out of stock of SOC's. I emailed a couple of days asking what the status was on my order and got a reply back that he is waiting for a new batch to come from the factory at the end of September.

Get them both

I don't recall ever using my 1305 after getting the SOC.

unless you want to rotate boars, they have similar handle shapes/sizes and I see no point in having both of them in this case.

he'd be better off with a different Semogue or trying an Omega.

I don't have a 1305, but I have an 1800 that was my favorite brush for a long time. Then I got a SOC and within two lathers, it passed my 1800 as my favorite boar. It is far better than the average Semogue.

Definitely. I look at the SOC as an upgraded 1305/1250. Thicker handle. Better handle material. Bigger knot. Better hair.

Thanks for the heads-up. It would have been nice to know that before ordering, but I suppose I can be patient. The end of September will come soon.

you could always cancel and go with shaving.ie. it's about $3-4 more, but they likely have them in stock.
