Semogue boar with a plastic handle?

I see many talk about the painted handled 1305 being a great brush, but I prefer to have a plastic handle. Those model with the clear handles have a vintage look. Which one is a good one?

The 830 has an acrylic handle with basically the exact same knot as the 1305. At least it is the same hair grade. Some folks say the 830 has a ever so slightly larger knot.

I have the 830, and the 620. Both are outstanding brushes. I'd say the 830 is a bit nicer for face lathering, since the knot is a good deal bigger and splays out more than the 620, if you like to face lather with a large knot, that is, I guess.

There is no wrong choice between them, just a matter of your preference in knot size.

I have the 610 (620 w/out the fake banding). The knot is smaller than the 830. It is a very nice looking and feeling brush... works great for face lathering, but it also bowl lathers very well. Either one, the 610 (620) or the 830 would be great.

I have the 610 as well and love it. I feel like they are cheap enough to try a few different sizes out so get both the 610(or 620) and the 830..

+1. Once these babies are broken in, they are just as soft as high end badger brushes! I love both my 620 and 830!

I have the 620 with plastic handle and I love the brush. My only complaint though concerns the plastic handle. It looks nice imo but man, when that thing is wet and on a wet sink top it scoots around like an Olympic ice skater. I went to grab my lather loaded brush today and it shot across the sink top and into the sink full of water. It has also landed once between the sink cabinet and the wall throwing lather everywhere. :biggrin1:

^ This... is why I use a scuttle or a brush scuttle... always, even if it's not heated. lol

Oh, do I wish the SOC came with a similar handle to my 830! I swear I would buy 2 of them. One with natural bristles and one with a band dyed in like my 830.

Same here, find very little difference between them. Inexpensive enough to order both. Mine were great out of the box, and just get better.

I've had the 1305, 830 and 620 for several years and largely rotate among the three, always face lathering. While the 1305 and 830 have similar specs, I find them to be different in use. The 830 knot feels denser, perhaps more tightly packed or set lower in the handle than the 1305. My take is that the 1305 has better flow through and I am able to build great lather very quickly. The 620 is smaller, shorter and scrubbier. All three are very good brushes.

nsl, if you pick up an 830 you will not be disappointed. They are wonderful brushes, beautiful to look at and feel great in the hand.

For a little $24 you can't go wrong.

I have both the 830 and 620. I face lather with soap 95% of the time. I use the 620 about 95% of the time. The 830 is too floppy for me. It's amazing the first year or so, but then its too floppy.
