What's new

Search for Godrej ended in failure. But...

I picked up some Dettol Fresh instead :w00t:

Not my photo... mine only has 30% extra free... but it is recommended by the Indian Medical Association.

"Dettol Fresh Shaving Cream for Everyday Protection. With a pleasant Fresh fragrance to give you a refreshing shaving experience. Plus its rich, creamy lather softens the beard to give a smooth shave."

The Indian market I went to sells it for $4. Smells like lime.

Anyone tried it?

The Indian creams are not always easily available, but all seem to get great reviews around here.

FWIW, theshaveden.com carries the whole godrej line (3 creams & soap puck).

I don't know how close you are to Seattle proper, but Continental Spices on Aurora has sold Godrej products in the past. I bought a whole bunch from them and sold them here on B&B last year. They might have a couple of tubes in stock.

Hope this helps!

I went there today; none to be seen.

The Dettol came from Apna in Bellevue.

Hmmm, tell us how it performs. I've been interested in the Dettol Cool variety for awhile. It's supposed to be a true menthol bomb.

Review!

I used my Tweezerman brush, because I'm still breaking in the Rooney.

Packaging: Basic plastic tube. Nothing special.

Scent: Limey. Not in the same way as (say) GFT. But the smell definitely explodes once you start lathering. I'd say it's a bit more chemical, but pleasant. The smell lingers a bit, even after cold water/witch hazel/Nivea balm.

Lathering: Holy moly. Tons of thick lather. I used a bit more product than I normally would, but I did a four-pass shave, and had enough lather to do another two passes, maybe more. Seriously, it was like that "I Love Lucy" episode with the rice. You don't need a lot of product.

Efficacy: Gave me a nice shave (it better with four passes!) Seriously, it did what a good lather is supposed to do. I have a nice, close shave and no irritation.

Moisturizing: Hard for me to judge, but my skin feels nice :) I did apply the product to my goatee + mustache, and the hair feels soft, so I'd say it has some decent properties here. Nothing special.

Price: $4 for a big tube. Good price.

Overall, I give it a thumbs up. It won't be replacing my growing stock of shaving soaps and creams :blushing: but it will be in the rotation.

I'd definitely be interested in trying the Dettol Cool.

Great find! Personally I have found that some of the cheap/obscure creams (Godrej, Wars, etc.) are excellent performers. Obviously they are low on luxury (no fancy containers, weird fragrance, you have to buy them in a store selling goat meat) but for four bucks you still get some great shaves.

I scored some Old Spice original cream from an Indian mart near Fircrest, but it was the only tube and when I went back, nothing.

I've tried looking for the Dettol in Indian marts in the North Seattle and South Everett areas, but no luck.

I'm trying to get a list of stores that have supplies in the Washington Wet Shavers group. Feel free to join and let us know what you've discovered. :001_smile
