SE or DE, and Why?

I am going with SE, I get better shaves with a thick SE blade. Granted there isn't as much variety when it comes to blade choices.

I would say under ideal conditions, SE razors provide a shave with less irritation that lasts longer, for me at least. DE razors seem to be more forgiving of bad prep or mistakes with technique. I usually use a SE at this point most days.

Alternating - Love the shaves I get from SE, but I am having trouble pushing carbon and stainless steel blades past three or four days max (they feel kinda dull after two). Anyway, no real complaints there because the shaves are pretty flawless. Most of the time I am shaving with Double edge razors.

DE.

I tried SE shaving a couple years ago and for some reason, it never worked for me. I would always end up a bloody mess.

DE for me...no particular reason worth mentioning other than that's what I grew up watching my old man using.

DE works better for me. I like using both, but DEs are what I have more experience with so it's easier to get a better shave that way.

SE, DE, SR I would be hard pressed to chooss a preference. I use and love them all.

... and if you want a superior SE shave try a Valet Autostrop with a Feather blade.

I'm sorry I left out straights. I haven't used one yet.

DE, because I can use a superior blade.

This is a YMMV situation. I think SE blades are superior but that's my opinion.

IMHO it all comes down to whatever you like best, and prefer. If it works for you great, and who's to say you're wrong? :001_tongu

+1, But I'm curious to see how many SE users are out there.

I own and enjoy both DE and SE, but I'm primarily a DE man. It's hard to explain, but an SE to me feels less "tame." With a DE, I feel like I'm in control, but with an SE, I feel like I'm just making suggestions, and the razor's playing along because it wants to. I can't explain it, except maybe it's because I have more time in with DEs, so I'm more comfortable. And of course there are straight razors, where I feel like a caveman trying to tame a wolf for the first time.

I use DE's & SE's during the work week and Straights on weekends. A vintage Trac II when I travel once a month. While I wouldn't suggest using the different techniques required by each so often to anyone who is just learning or has many different razor types in their rotation.

In my case, I have found my certain few razors of each design I prefer and have become very efficient in the use of them. I get consistent DFS shaves from all types and cannot discern the differences in quality or closeness from any of them.

I don't know. The SE Assimilation Tour is coming my way soon. I expect I'll know more after I shave a few times with Haggises' G-bar.

DE, and it's not even close. I don't understand why anyone would shave with an SE. Blades are worse, cool factor is low (IMO), and I have zero nostalgic link to SE. Shaves with a DE are closer and more comfortable, too.
