Scuttle owners

When you make lather in a scuttle, do you squeeze the lather out of your brush and back into the bowl to keep the lather warm? When making lather in a bowl, most of the lather remains in the brush,

so I was wondering if you just lay the brush in the scuttle or squeeze the lather out of the brush and back into the scuttle.

when i used one before i went to cold shaving i used to lay the brush in it and it did a great job keeping it hot. mine was an older one with the holes on the top.

I have a G20 and I lay the brush in the bowl of the scuttle. Keeps the lather nice & warm. It seems to keep the lather warmer than my brush scuttle which I use when face lathering. I guess that's due to the larger water capacity of the G20

I don't squeeze out the lather because I want to keep the brush hydrated...the lather and moisture in the brush transfer the heat throughout just fine laying in the bowl. I give the occasional swirl and plunge just to keep the heat even.

I just lay the brush the in the scuttle and it stays warm just fine. I may swirl it a few times before the 2/3 passes.

Another cold water shaver here. I tried it a couple of times but the results have been so good the last couple of weeks in terms of less irritation I think I'll stick with it. Hot water softens the beard, cold water makes the bristles stiffer and hence more comfortable to cut off.

I used to use a scuttle as well, and it was difficult because my tap didn't really make the water warm enough. I had to microwave it to about 160-170 degrees and it kept the lather warm. Any hotter than that the lather will dry out on you and you might crack your scuttle. At that temperature the mixing area kept it warm for about 20 minutes as I recall.

+1 exactly what I do with my DB 1.5

I am so confused - the brush rests in the bowl of the scuttle between passes and keeps warm - why would you squeeze the lather out?

So much for safty razor shaving saving money over the Gillette Fusion. I just placed an order for a scuttle. I'm so addicted I'm Jonseing for more.

I leave the lather in the brush, the brush in the scuttle, which keeps the lather fairly warm. To get even more heat, when I'm ready for my second and third passes, I'll squish the brush around the scuttle a few times to reheat and charge the lather. I'll brush the lather into the area to be shaved and finish by squeezing some of the lather out of the brush between my thumb and forefinger that I paint with the brush on my face to thicken the lather layer. This provides a nice, thick, moist, warm lather.

If someone told you this is a money saving strategy I would question their intelligence level

I have a DB standard with spider ridges and I'm a +1 for the swirl as well. I just try to make sure that there is some lather in contact with the suraface area of the bowl and brush at the same time which it keeps warm pretty well.
