Scuttle affecting lather consistency?

I've recently switched over for the cold weather to a makeshift scuttle (ceramic mug kept in a sink of hot water). The warm lather is just a great feeling, but I have noticed lately my lathers are wetter/looser than they used to be. I can't think of anything I'm doing differently compared to before, other than the mug, and keeping it warm. Is it the warmth? Or perhaps the lack of any texture on the inside of the mug (it's ceramic and glazed pretty much glass smooth).

Sometimes, but the better answer is "slightly less hot."

5-10 degrees cooler can make a drastic difference in lather. And if you are using a lanolin soap in a scuttle that's anything but lukewarm, you set yourself up for a fail. Lanolin melts at around 95ish degrees F.

Water is to hot.
I had the same thing happen to me. O had a makeshift scuttle scenario like yours.
I going the lather to be watery on the second pass.

Couldn't determine how warm it should be.

OK, I'll dial down the water temp tomorrow (or maybe tonight on a test lather...) and see how it goes.

If you're not überlathering, you might try it; a couple of drops of glycerin helps hold the water and the soap together.

I've pondered picking up some glycerine to experiment with, but the soaps I use never seem to need any help, and I also often uberlather anyways.
