What's new

Score, or bore? Went to the supermarket in Weihai and got some tea stuff.

I spent less than US$40 on this stuff and more. The first set I bought two of, cause it was only 58 Yuan, or $8.28 for the set. I also bought one more expensive set, though I don't really see much difference in quality. The second set was $125 Yuan, or about $18.66. Those are gifts for an Aunt, an ex, and a hopefully soon to be GF. For myself I also got a glass carafe type teapot with the mesh infuser that hangs down in the pot. Looks like a small Mr. Coffee carafe but with the little mesh basket for the tea.

Coming soon... the tea I bought.

Here is the tea I bought at the supermarket. Obviously "Ten Sin" is the house brand.

Top row:
Ten Sin Pu'er
Ten Sin Ri'Zhao Snow Tips Green Tea
Ten Sin Wuyi Mountain Da Hong Pao
Ten Sin Chinese Black Tea
Ten Sin OOlong

Bottom row:
still more Ten Sin Pu'er!
Ten Sin Dragon Well green tea
Ten Sin jasmine scented Bilo tea
Uncle Lee Jinxuan Tea "Tomato Preserved" (a freebie)

Not shown:
Anhui Tianyin Chaye green tea in nice cannister
Zhenhui Shangmao Youxian Gongsi green tea, cannister

Total for tea... 330 Yuan, about $49.25

Also shown is my 4.5 Yuan, or 67 cent, teapot. Exchange rate is 6.7 Yuan to $1. The cab ride from the shipyard to Weihai and back was $90, and I tipped the driver $10 cause he pushed my shopping cart around the store for me. So total spent on tea and tea stuff was $88.95, and a C-note for the cab. Should I be satisfied?

That is a nice score, even the boxes they are packaged in are nice. I am just distracted by the cab fare, I am not sure how far you traveled, but surprised to see it cost that much.

About a 45 minute ride one-way.

Another nice score... I bought two brand new 3Gs iphones, unlocked, jailbroke, (can't sync them with itunes) for $190. The neat thing about these is the battery is replaceable. The back slides down and off, giving access to the innards. In fact, they both came wth a spare battery. Slots for 2 sim cards inside, and a micro SD card. Only downer besides having to put music and apps on manually, is sometimes a bunch of chinese stuff comes up on screen and I can't even speak it, much less read it. One phone is for a GF and one is for me, and I am still playing around with it in my spare moments figuring it out. So far all I have done is make phone calls with it and listen to some tunes, but my current project is to get some GPS street/land navigation apps running on it.

Sounds like one of the various clones, like what is described on shanzhai.com. Interesting all the quality knockoffs that are out there...sometimes better than the original.

You are right. I googled the IMEI number and they are copies, not real iphones at all. Nice copies in that the battery is user-changeable. Not so nice in that you can't install any apps on them, apparently. I see there are some other faux-iphones that use the android OS so I would assume that they can at least run apps ported to that OS. Oh well... the price was right. No internal GPS, apparently, either. Or the quasi "assisted GPS" that relies heavily on celphone signals.

Well, time for some more pu'er, I guess.

Second score. This time a bunch of us hired a van to take us to Weihai. I liked the jasmine green tea so much that I wanted a bunch more.

First pic... the two compressed vaccuum-packs are just generic green tea. The second from the right, bottom row, is twisted Kuding. The cannister is Xiu Qiu jasmine tea. The rest is all jasmine green tea.

Second pic... Ten Sins pu-er cake, Flower Story display tea, Colorful Yunnan Top Mini Gold Pu-er balls, (in rectangular tin) and a big heavy pu'er "nest" with only Chinese characters on the label.

Total expenditure for this score... about $55.00 plus 50 Yuan, my share of the transportation tab.

I already had some loose pu'er and I wanted some compressed stuff, and some more jasmine tea for gifts, and the flower tea caught my eye cause it was pretty and cheap... I think about a buck. Now I gotta decide what to drink next, but I am fascinated by the little pu'er balls and I think I'll try one tomorrow.

I just realized I haven't had a cup of coffee in two weeks now! We are trying to sail tomorrow so this is my last tea buy in China for the foreseeable future.
