What's new

Schulze seven day set.

OK, so I scored this seven day set of the bay, $317 not bad I'm thinking?
Anyway, all of the blades show some pitting. Tuesday is the worse, with alot of pitting, the rest are fairly good. They also have some varnish on them, it looks like some previous owner oiled them up too much, then put them away, and the oil dryed up and turned to laquer, or sumpthing.
Well, I think I can remove the varnish, and I would like to clean them up as best I can, without hurting the etching, what do y'all suggest for the pitting?
Thanks,
Bil

Great Score, Schulze are fine shavers.

I think it would be tough to remove any pitting without sacrificing the gold etching.
But Ladykate has secrets, or so I hear.

Thanks guys.
While I was cleaning one of the razors I noticed it has raised numbers inside of the scales, 1002, is this a serial number?

Nice score, I was watching them out of curiosity. Can't help on the restore unfortunatley - never done gold wash or painted blade restores. In any case I'm sure they'll be great once finished.

Nail polish remover will not hurt the gold wash.

Here is a vid I did for a friend in Spain.

I used my Rononol lighter fluid to remove the varnish (yes, I'm a smoker), worked pretty well. It's the pitting and rust that worries me. I tried some mag polish (BlueMagic) on my dremel, that didn't work. Then I tried Turtle Wax while polish on the dremel, that didn't work either. Then I tried Dupont #7 to try and clean the edge of one of the blades. Doing so I accidentally went across the white paint of the Berlin crest. When it turned black I thought I had ruined it. After some polishing with a clean cloth I found that I had mearly blackened the white with the rubbing compound.
Whew...
I am thinking now to start with fine sandpaper and carefully working my way to courser grits, and avoiding the etching if possible,
Sorry for the poor pic, and the flash line, taking photos is gonna be a future post... Anyway, the scratching in the balde should be clearly visible at the bottom of the crest.
How do I fix this, or even, can it be fixed?
thx,
Bil
