Schick what? & King Cutter

Picked up a Schick DE today for $4. Don't really know why. Or what model it is.
On the underside of the head it seems to have three 1's (too far apart to be 111) on the left side of the handle, and "Schick" on the right. No markings on the inside of the head. It opens and closes to change blades, but it isn't adjustable. It has "Schick" in a triangle on the bottom of the handle. The handle is black plastic with 6 rows of "bumps" running from top to bottom. The knob at the base is knurled silver metal (I assume chrome plated brass?) flush with the black plastic part.

Any ideas which model this would be?

I cleaned it a bit just with toothpaste and an old toothbrush, but it needs some more attention to get it fully clean. Is there a way to take it apart to clean it properly? If there is I assume it involves prying the little "Schick-in-a-triangle" button out of the base of the handle. Don't want to try that unless there are some very clear instructions.

I also picked up a nice H. Boker & Co. King Cutter in it's own box. Just stropped it a few times and it cuts arm hair a 1/4" above my arm. I'll give it a trial as soon as I can generate some facial hair (slow growth soft beard)

That sounds like a Schick Krona. Nice razor.

I'd be wary about assuming a recently bought vintage straight is shave-ready. That's quite unlikely (but not impossible), and the price may be quite high to find out you're wrong. This is even if it lops off hairs from your arm.

I'd advise you to get it honed properly before using it.

I'm not sure what you mean by shave-ready. This particular razor is sharper than any I have sharpened myself, and I shave with those. If I get a good shave from a razor isn't it shave ready?

This King Cutter, I could hold 1/4" ABOVE my arm - never touch the skin - and it would cut the arm hairs it reached. Granted it isn't the same as a hanging hair test, but that is sharper than any of my other razors.

The Krona. With your ID I googled Schick Krona and yes, it does look as if that is what it is. Thanks.

Don't field strip that Krona!

Scrubbing bubbles, soft toothbrush and rinse. Look for the remaining gunky spots, use more scrubbing bubbles and the toothbrush.

For hard to reach areas, use a pipe cleaners and cotton swabs.

To put a nice shine on the metal parts of the head, I use Maas, but Flitz or any other mild metal polish will do.

Hot water is OK, but boiling water can get you a melted Krona.

I forgot about that... was it Stubblefield who ruined one that way?
Never; I only boil Gillettes. I do remember someone doing that tho.

Scrubbing bubbles, Flitz and a little elbow grease is all the Krona needs. And they are great razors. $4 is a steal.
