Schick Type N injectors for dummies

These razors were produced between 1984 and 1998. I've only owned one so far so I can't comment on how each style shaves. What they all share in common is a razor head that is rectangular in shape.

Style 1 - produced from 1984 to at least 1990. This one is also referred to as an N1 using the Appleby designations.

Style 2 - unknown the exact production dates but assumed 1990 or later. This razor came in 2 colors, black and white. This razor is referred to as an N2 using the Appleby designations. It differs from the N1 in that it doesn't have a band across the handle as can be seen in the second picture showing the white handle N2 next to an N1.

Style 3 - unknown the exact production dates but is known to be produced in 1993 and probably other years. This razor is referred to as an N3 using the Appleby designations. It is identified by the rubber handle.

Style 4 - unknown the exact production dates. This razor is not identified or lumped together as an N3. It should have it's own designation and as such I am calling it an N4. It is identified by the handle which is the same style as a Type L Schick Grip tennis racket.

The N1 is the only one I currently have in my pile. I have seen one N3 for sale and he wanted more than I was willing to give for it.

The Type N3 for me is the best original Schick that takes a Twin Blade, and that includes the M series Adjustables.
Had a super Shave with the N3 today, smooth, comfortable and ultra close all round. Seem quite rare hence asking price often high.

I never did try a Schick II blade in a Type N yet. I am going to do that today.

Am I correct in deducing that the heads on these are all the same so they all shave similarly?
They should based upon how Warner Lambert manufactured razors in the past but I can't say for sure since I've never tested them all.

The Heads are the same, but i have found that the different handles seem to make a difference to the way the Razor shaves. I have used the N1 & N3, and am more comfortable shaving with the N3.

Tried the N1 with a Schick II and have to say this razor is really good with a Schick II twin blade. It is not the best shave I've gotten with this style blade using other injectors but it is more than acceptable for daily use. I am assuming this razor was designed to use a Schick II blade as it's primary blade since the shaves with a single edge injector blade aren't anywhere as good in this razor.

I hear all you guys raving about the twin blades but I just can't bring myself to the point of trying one. The Chick single blades are pretty darn good and if it won't shave well with one of those then I just won't be using it that much. I know I am stubborn and have been this way since the '70s. I think multiple blades are a gimmick. It has been a while since I used my N1, so this Sunday it happens to come up in the rotation. If I recall it does pretty good with a Chick.

I have an N2 and it shaves incredibly with either the Chick Blades or the Ted Pella SS PTFE coated blades (121-4).

In fact, it out shaves every single DE razor and blade combo I have, and is an equal to my GEMs; in some ways better, in that it is more maneuverable and much better/less dangerous shaving my head...but I do love my GEMS!

As many have said, it’s like cheating. Almost as easy as a Sensor, MUCH less costly, and much greater blade life than any other type of blade razor, including GEMS.

And can we just say the inventors were geniuses-I mean, the simplicity and elegance of the design really is a thing of beauty. Nothing to wear out. Super blade rigidity. Never clogs.

But that’s just my humble opinion 🙂
