What's new

Schick type F complete with box on the bay.

Another Schick type F sold recently. This one still had the cardboard box. I had never seen one before.

Here are some close-ups the seller took of the box.

I should mention that the seller in this auction was kind enough to let me put these photos here for posterity.

I own one of those Fs. Cool looking...cool shaving. Has a different vibe than the others that followed. With the whole set tossed in, that is a real find!

That's the third one to go for around $200, and the third one to be bought by what appears to be a non-razor collector. It makes me wonder if there was an article published overseas about these razors, as the first two were bought for overseas customers within the space of a week. I'm not sure about this one, except that the buyer did not look like a razor collector. It was bought on a BIN in less than 12 hours--it's all very vexing since a nice cased one usually goes for $60-$70.

The first of the three buyers was the same company that I had sold some blades to a week or so earlier. It turned out that they buy for people overseas. Then there was another Type F soon after that, and it looked like the same deal although the buyer was different. If you look at this buyer's other purchases and sales, there were no razors listed.

Sorry about sounding so thick and maybe i am missing something, but why is that model of razor worth so much money.

No idea why it suddenly became worth more, but beav made a good guess.
Also, I've always kind of felt that this particular model had been undervalued, regardless of my opinions on it as a shaver.
They are rather unique among the schick lineup, built unlike any other, and they weren't made for very long.
But it is still quite shocking to see just how far up they went.

I agree, but then many people are not as interested in the aesthetics of the razors as much as the shave quality. Actually, the F's don't really shave poorly; they are just mild razors as compared to some others of their time.

It could just be that some people got interested in these razors and bid them up. On the other hand, I could easily see an article written on moderne design and a photo of the Schick F was featured along with other items of interest.

God forbid that there's ever a prominent TV segment shown about someone famous switching to wetshaving. That would be the end of the world price-wise.

I have an "F" maybe I should put it up on EBAY? I find it a good razor...but like all injectors, it's more about the blade than the razor.

Do it...

If I got rid of all my highly coveted must have razors tomorrow,I'd get by just fine.

One of the best things about being here in the world of single edge razors was to be shaving with the real deal and get away from all the crazies with more money than brains....It ain't that way no more.

The cost of razors was going up when I came onboard back in April 2012. Guys were bitching about prices on EBAY and how EBAY was ruining the chance to get good tools at fair prices...like in the good ole days.

There were a few guys who'd stir up everybody with their tales of the latest great razor. There was the Open Comb group think...then the Dameskeene...the Streamline..the Cadets...on and on.

These Pied Pipers seem to have gone AWOL...perhaps for the best. But the funny thing with these trend-making hype cats is they would actually effect the price on EBAY.

I bought into the Dameskeene and Streamline hype madness. The Dam is a decent razor, probably slightly better than a standard 1912 but not a dramatic thing. The Streamline looks kind of cool but I don't get it's a shaving marvel. I'd like to dump mine but I paid too much to recover my investment.

In the end, my cheapo GEM MicroMatic and my relatively inexpensive Schick Hydro-Magic razors are all I use now. I just tried a EverReady 1914 and got a nice weeper and burn for my effort. Boo! I'm selling it. Gone.

Greetings all. My name is Mark, and as you can see, I’m new here. I bid on, and came in 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] place (1[SUP]st[/SUP] loser) on this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150999064517?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

And I purchased AmishMotorBoat’s 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] one (Which is very nice):

I can assure you gentlemen, that one is for myself and is NOT leaving the country! No real mystery or secret on why I bid and paid what I did for the F, it was Desire and Ignorance. I decided I wanted to start a razor collection (Desire) and I had no idea what the F’s were really worth (Ignorance). Honestly, I didn't think it would go for that much though. But, I got my dander up as they say and adopted a "Damn the torpedo's" attitude and bid it to win. Almost.

I’m having fun with, and enjoying immensely, this whole wet shaving thing, so I’ve been purchasing a selection of vintage SE and DE razors to try (Along with soaps, creams, and aftershaves). Along the way I decided I wanted to start collecting vintage razors (I’m doing, and going through, this whole retro, mid-life crisis thing. But that’s another story) and I saw that 1[SUP]st[/SUP] F for sale and bid on it. I really liked the look, and as it’s supposed to be one of the rarest models, I decided I wanted it, even though I honestly didn’t know what is was worth or what it would fetch. Apparently someone else wanted it even worse than I did, which is fine, as the one I got from Amishmotorboat is much better. Another forum member (Thanx Brian) clued me in to Amishmotorboat’s first one (Which had already sold) and I then saw he had the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] one for sale and I bought it. So, am I happy? Absolutely. Did I pay too much? Amishmotorboat doesn’t think so :biggrin1: Seriously, I’m good. This makes a great foundation piece, and I also recently picked up a really nice Schick C1, G3, and a near mint L5 Paul Revere with the blade blank still in place, so the collection is off to a good start. And I have my eye on a few others. So gent’s, that’s my story.

Oh, how do you guys see/know who the bidders are? All I see is a letter, 3 asterix, and a number.

Cheers,

Mark

So, the magic of paying so much for an "F" must have to do with being a complete set? I have just the F razor and I can't believe it would get so much.
