Schick Krona

I just purchased a schick krona on ebay and was looking for some input on something. The one I purchased didn't look like the others I have seen. The piece at the bottom of the razor is made of metal rather than plastic and the top does not have the words "Schick" or "Krona" stamped on it. It didn't look refurbished from what I could tell in the pictures. Can anyone tell me if this is still a krona?

Can you post a photo, Jay?

FWIW, I have at least three Kronas, and although they have some minor differences, all of them have Schick or Krona or both on them.

$schick.jpg I can't seem to find the exact picture of the one I purchased but it looks like this from what I remember.

Yip, still a Krona.

I have shaved with a few of them and, while there are aesthetic differences between the versions, I could not pick up on any performance differences between the models.

Yes, it is a Krona, as not all razors had marked silo doors, and a metal twist knob is a plus.

+1

I have both types, and use the plastic knob model as a daily shaver. They seem to shave similarly, but the metal knob model has slightly more heft, and slightly different balance.

It's a mild razor - team it up with a sharp blade (Personna Red / Feather / Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow) and it's like wiping your whiskers off!

I think the aesthetic is great, too, with the brushed metal, angular doors and the black / metal theme.

The metal knob model definitely is heavier, with weight more evenly distributed between handle and head. The plastic knob model is lighter with most of the weight in the head. The TTO mechanism in the metal knob variety looks more substantial. I received both types last week. Only shaved with the plastic knob model so far. I'm thinking I'll prefer the heavier metal knob model.

I have one similar to the OP's. I think they are better looking than the ones with the logo on the doors, and the plastic knob.

IIRC, the early ones (metal knob, plain doors) are alleged by some to be slightly more agressive than the later ones. I have never used the later model, so I can't say.

Great razor, highly recommended to those new to DE shaving. I prefer it to the 50's/60's Superspeed, mostly because of the additional handle length, but they are very similar in use.

Actually, it's not officially a Krona. When that razor came out Schick was only calling their blades Krona. The razor was simply the Schick DE razor. That's why the doors aren't labeled. Later on, Schick rechristened the design and called it Krona. Around here you'll often see that version referred to as a pre-Krona.

I must have a pre-Krona with the metal knob with "Schick" written on it. Still looking for a relative date.
