Schick Krona ?

You don't hear much about Schick Krona compared to the Gillette's when it comes to collecting or shaving. How does it compare to the Gillette razors it competed against? Thanks

It is a very nice smooth, mild razor. Similar to a Gillette Tech in how it shaves. Stick a Feather or Black O'Clock in it and it is fantastic.

If it had a metal handle like the flair tips it would be on everyone's radar but with a plastic handle it seems to be the week step sister of TTO razors for some reason

I don't use mine very much but when I do I wonder why I don't

I love my Krona and believe it currently flies under the radar. Somehow the rubbery plastic handle doesn't feel as cheap as you might think. I think it's a bit better shaver than a SS...

I've said once I'll say it again, if the Krona had a metal handle Super Speeds would not be king. It's got a nice low profile on the head and it's aggressiveness is between a tech and Super Speed. Feed it whatever blade you want and it does a superb job. It's one, if not the most, underrated TTO.
There are varieties as well. You've got your black tip with Krona on the head, black tips with Schick on the head, nickel tipped Kronas, gold plated head Kronas. There's also the elusive Ever-Sharp Krona with an eagle on the tip of the handle. There's a few to be had.

I agree that it is a very underrated razor. I just used one of mine two weeks ago and was reminded just how good a razor it is. I have had them for many years and until recently, I ignored them. That is no longer the case.

Regards,

Doug

It's very mild and easy to use. I don't agree that it's aggressiveness is between a Tech and a Superspeed; mine was milder than a Tech. I sold it about a year ago.

Definitely smooth and easy to use, but too mild for my taste.

I used my plastic knob version last night, IMHO the mildest version of the Krona's by a little bit. Looks the same as the one in Turtle's pic, a very good shaver that holds its own against any SS I own.

Many of us complain about the plastic handle, which I understand as aesthetics is a big thing here (me included). However, if one had the razor restored, would it be possible to get the handle redone with a metal plating just like the razor head?

When I inherited my grandfather's razors as a kid, this is the razor I started with (mainly because it was the newest and most recent that he had used). It's still my favorite and shaved with it tonight in fact. I would agree with the comment above. It's definitely milder than my pre-war fat handled Tech.

Maybe, but it was designed with a plastic handle, so why change that?

Sounds like painting the black bumpers of a Saab 900 because you like colour better.

I would change it because it was my preference... Isn't that the point of most of the topics talked about on this site?
It was made with a plastic grip, but it's also my razor. Is there really any reason to question why I would want to do that? It is myself personal preference. Rather than be like many others who say they don't even think about the razor, and the plastic handle being a major reason, doesn't it make sense to essentially "upgrade" the handle rather than disregard the razor?

I've been watching these on eBay for a while, since I like the way my Feather Popular shaves, and I think having a similar "vintage" razor would be cool...the prices on the clean ones are sure going up. I guess the word is getting out on them, or it's like my usual: when I want to buy something, it is scarce and expensive. When I want to sell something, it is plentiful and cheap.

Maybe we should stop talking about them ...
