Schick Injector

I bought a lot of razors recently and there were some injectors in the lot so I figured I'd get some blades and give one a shot.

It was okay, certainly a mild shave compared to my open comb Gillettes. I think this would have been an awesome shaver when I was younger and had a lighter beard.

Do people still use these guys? I mean, I know they do, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to buy blades on amazon. But is there a following here?

Is there a big difference between blades (that might be easily available)? Is there a big difference with the different models of Injectors?

[irony]Oh, NO!!:wink2: There's NOBODY who uses those old things anymore! :wink2: They're absolute GARBAGE!! I only have 3 of them because I just can't seem to get rid of them...[/irony]

Seriously, they're great razors--ranging from very mild to quite aggressive depending on the model. They have quite a dedicated following here, but we're all trying to keep it a secret so that prices don't go through the roof like DE razors seem to have done in the past couple of years!

Yeah, Injectors are pretty popular on the SE board. Nearly every SE user uses an Injector from time to time.

The differences between the gold-headed Bakelite handled ones (E, and G types) and the later t-shaped ones are pretty significant, but they're all pretty much the same in how they shave. Very narrow operating angle, very hard to screw up.

The blades you get new are called "Chicks" as in, "Chinese-made Schicks". They're not bad. They last forever. The Ted Pella Injector blades are pretty good too. Some users rave about them. I prefer the Chicks.

You can still find NOS blades. The old Plus-Platinums are particularly coveted.

Oh, there might be a few people on the planet that use injector razors still. Mostly on internet shaving forums :001_smile

OK. Any advice on cleaning the poor old things? They certainly have harder to reach places than DE's I've restored.

How do I get in there and remove the blade rust?

Pipe cleaner for getting into the nooks and crannies. Use a spare blade case key to keep the parts of the razor spread.

After soaking the razor in Scrubbing Bubbles I've used a paper towel sheet slid under the lid and work it back and forth until nothing discoloured is coming out.

i have one that was pretty rough and found that an old, soft toothbrush worked pretty well. i like the pipe cleaner advice, also.

semichrome (sp?) polish took all of the rust off, and is supposed to be pretty mild stuff. when i get some mineral oil i will probably give it a soak in that.

I started out DE, but a B&B member steered me toward injectors early on for under-the-nose smooth...I think it was Mick. Now I own three and gave another to a noob I work with...really getting him hooked on wet shaving...trying to coax him over here to B&B. As my IRAD grew, I lucked upon a G4 (66) which looks brand new. I love it, although I am still a DE user, I clean up and buff with the 66. My father used a G all his life, or at least the part of his life I was in. I was still using an electric when Dad passed, but that G was always there, on the sink. I think Mom got rid of it with a bunch of things...she didn`t want to be reminded that he was gone...but I have 3 G's now. So, yeah, nobody uses them anymore.

The hydro-magic injectors that you can open for cleaning are the best of the injectors IMO.

It's funny, every SE thread I look at, somebody mentions or posts a photo of the Cobra. Mercy brothers, mercy!

Yep, that's my opinion too. I've had a few injectors for a while (a couple of Es, a G, an L, and a PAL), but the I2 that I got fairly recently is my favourite. The hydro-magic thing that lets you open it to clean even with the blade in is pretty cool, but I also think it's the best balanced of them all and overall the best shaver.

I know this thread is old, but I just found it because I've fallen down the rabbit hole that is injectors. I found an Ever Ready-Schick G4 that I received quite some time ago and got intrigued. I was able to procure some blades from my local base exchange and with a fresh supply of blades, I figured I needed at least one other injector, so I now have a PAL on the way too. Oh, and sorry to bring it up Jeff, but I too have a Cobra and every time I shave with it the angels sing.

I got hooked on injectors after I picked up a type G for $6 at an antique store. Now I also have a J1 and a Hydro-Magic as well as a PAL Inject-O-Matic. They have become my goto razors during the week when I am in a hurry because I can usually get a DFS in one pass. The best part is all but the Hydro-Magic were picked up for way less than $10 each. I do still enjoy my DE razors when I have a little more time.

I've been using an I1 lately and absolutely love it! smooth close shave, easily equal to the best shaves I've ever had (I'm using Ted Pellas). I have an adjustable Schick too, have used it a few times with good results also.

I'm waiting on a few more to arrive (come on mr postman!)
