Schick Injector I

Hi,
It seems that the all around favorite on the Schick Injector line is the I2 or Hydromagic.

The I's are getting rare, and the offerings on the bay are beat up or expensive...
I have two SI's, model G and M20. How much is the I2 different compared to the M20, am I missing much?

Here are some pics...

I just picked up a lady Schick hydro-magic.. Looking forward to seeing how it performs.

Has a GREAT pink handle on it

sorry for the bad pic, it's NOT mine

So I guess my questions are:
what model is my razor (with the M20)?
for those who are familiar with it and the I2, how do they differ as far as the shave goes?

The hydro-magic option is a cleaning aid introduced by Schick. It releases the blade so that it floats in the 2 open parts of the head, held by 2 pins.

The biggest gripe about injector razors is that they are a b!+¢h to clean as soap is hard to get off of the blade when it is held tightly in the head.

The numbers stamped on the underside of the Schick frames are meaningless, they aren't model numbers or date codes. The one you have is an L type. The types weren't designated by Schick, they were used by Alan Appelby to identify the various models when he compiled a history of the Schick injectors about 10 years ago.

The I2 has the Hydro-magic lever, the I1 is identical except it lacks the cleaning lever, and came with white and the semi rare black handle.

The I types are my favorite of the Schick injectors. You'll probably find the L type is a bit milder than the I.

How does the J model compare (shave-wise) to the I2 model?

They have the same frames, so basically the same, except the J has a longer handle. Keep in mind that there is some variations between razors in the same types due to wear, different tolerances between "batches" etc. I have a J2 that is noticeably milder than all of the other J types I have. And the handle can make a big difference in how one razor feels over another, even with the same frame.

Honestly, getting opinions by comparing so many types against each other really doesn't tell you anyhing. The only way to really know and learn how each one works is to compare them for yourself, and not try to rely on a few people's opinions. YMMV is really true.
