What's new

Scent of the Day July 31 - August 6, 2006

Very late Sunday shave (I had nothing to do :tongue_sm )

Merkur Futur
Lord Blade (Egyptian)
Muehle Pinsel Super Badger
Woods of Windsor mugsoap

I just felt a need to pick up my Futur again, havent used it for 6 months (due to lack of concentration I just got razorburn from it  ) But today it was a happy reunion with my old friend. Nicest shave this week. Had forgotten how nice the Futur CAN be :001_rolle

The Woods of Windsor was a new experience, nice smell, crappy lather

Mekur Slantbar w/ Feather Blade
Truefitt & Hill Super Small Badger
QEDessentials Badger and Blade Shave Stick
QEDman DaVinci Water
Brave Soldier Code Blue Aftershave

Merkur Vision w/ Feather Blade
Merkur "Vision" Silvertip Brush
AOS Lemon Shave Cream
AOS Alum Block
AOS Unscented A/S Balm

Richard, you sure do take some nice pics. Whats the trick? What setting do you use on your camera?

Canon Digital Rebel XT and trial and error!

I've had the camera a year now and i'm still learning. The above photos are done with a bounce flash set on auto. I also have a macro 60mm USM EF-S lens that I use for close ups, in which case I use a tripod and no flash.

I find SOTD pictures look nicer with no flash and a tripod set on aperture priority, but it takes too much effort to drag the tripod into the bathroom!

Thanks for the tip. I just got a new camera, so it'll take some trial and error I can imagine.

How close does your camera get to the stuff you are taking picture of when using the macro lens?

btw- I have also noticed that DJ takes great pics too, maybe he can offer me some advice too.

The macro can focus down to 2" or so, pretty close. That 60mm lens is a beautiful lens and was good value. The stock lens the camera came with is okay. Nothing special, but gives you decent sharp pictures. Lenses are something that can seriously drain your wallet.

Thanks Richard. Unfortunately, I don't think my camera can take an extra lens. I'll look into it.

I do, however, have a "macro" setting but haven't used it yet.

Take Care

Sounds like you are using a point and shoot camera. If you want to take pictures without the flash washing out the picture, you need to invest in a cheap tripod. Or you can rest the camera on something when you take the picture.
