Scent exchange

After reading through all the posts about different colognes and AS that everyone uses, I had an idea. Being that some of these descriptions posted make me want to rush out and buy it, but I'm way to broke to just buy a cologne based on what I think it might smell like (not to mention I have no idea what some of the terminology means from a practical standpoint; eg gourmands) I was wondering if there would be an option of having a scent exchange. The way it would work is if you had a cologne/AS that you didn't like, you could list it for exchange. When somebody else had something they wanted to try, the swap could take place. Thoughts?
I'd be willing to swap a nearly full (small) bottle of CK One that was given as a gift. I just don't like the way it smells when I sweat.

Welcome to B&B, lowcountry_sc,and thanks for posting.

Your concept has been floated from time to time and considered. It is anappealing idea in a lot of ways. But, as a practical matter seems impracticalto implement through--much less by--B&B.

As my Brother Moderator, jakespoppy, wrote when this came up previously:

Itwould be very cool if we had a "clearing house" that we could tradethrough, with standard valuations where we could trade based on value and evenwith different timing, where you could accumulate "credits" fortrading in and out. But since we don't have that, and I don't see how we couldever get there, the BST still seems the most appropriate place to list WTTitems, including frag bottles and decants. I've traded bottles through BST andit worked very well. Having another subforum for swapping frags seems redundantto BST.
Seepost no. 4 in this thread http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/271794?p=3780746#post3780746

Note “BST” is the Buy, Sell, Trade forum, and there are certain requirements, such a minimum number of days membership on B&B, and minimum number ofsubstantive posts on B&B to qualify to post any want to sell or want totrade offers. The requirements are posted over in that forum. But feel free to askany questions at all that you have.

Note also that various vendors on B&B sell decants of various fragrances thatare much less expensive than purchasing an entire bottle.

Selling and trading is rather tightly regulated on B&B for many reasons. Itis based upon a wealth of B&B experience over the years, and is intended toprovide the greatest benefit to the members, including the ability for membersmostly participating in the substantive forums to have some reasonable outletto make buy-sells and trades among themselves--while not exposing members to unduerisks (although all transactions on the BST are "buyer beware"), notexposing B&B itself to liability, and not creating anything that requires amassive, time-consuming chore in policing the arrangement. Some ideas that seemmeritorious in the abstract--and we are always extremely grateful for ideasfrom members, new or old--just cannot be implemented throgh B&B.

I hope all of that makes some sense at least. And I want you to know that nonesaid here takes away from a warm welcome to you, and our hope you will beactive on this and other B&B forums. Still around and it may all make moresense, if it does not right now.

I was the one who set up the doc. It's by invite only, so if anybody else wants access to it, just send me a PM with your gmail address.

Remember though, B&B is not responsible for any transactions that take place.

I think I get it, and thanks for the in-depth replies. Basically, what you are saying is that I could post over on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum (after I have enough time/posts or however it's calculated so people don't get ripped off). Makes sense (get it!?).

Jason, how does the spreadsheet work?

Yeah, that's basically it.
