Scargill?

Has anyone heard of a Scargill? I found a post about T. Scargill on SRP but not much info. Could be the same people. The scales look like a piece of old redwood siding. The blades not to bad. Almost a true wedge with a stub tail. It will require some work but should clean up nice. I'm thinking the scales probably will have to go though...

An informed guess - it's hand-forged (hence the image of the hammer) and almost certainly Sheffield or nearby (Scargill is a Northern English name). The blade shape suggests early 1800's and the quill cross-section tends to support this. I would doubt those scales are original!

If you ever want to part with it, PM me.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking early 1800s too with the stub tail and grind. By quill I assume you mean tang?

Beautiful blade. Seriously. I've always been amazed also at the ingenuity of prior razor owners in how they repair broken scales or fashion crude but effective replacements.

Progress so far. Some of the pitting is a deep but the edge is clean. This guys kind of old so I don't want to remove to much metal. I may just stick with this. Kind of an aged/weathered look. I'm thinking some bone scales would look authentic with all the patina.

No mines left (Arthur tried to save them but failed in the end), no steel plants left and no expertise handed down for generations..so we couldn't make a decent razor in the UK nowadays - or am I just being cynical? :closedeye

Indeed, in the UK, there is a very famous Scargill, whom I first thought of when I saw the title!

Ahoy there everyone, I know this is an old thread, but i was wondering if anyone had any information on this brand? I just found one in the wild marked line one "T.Scargill" line two "sheffield". nothing on the other side of the tang and no hammer like this blade. Stub tail and thick tang. Once i get some time i'll start a new thread with pictures, but was just curious if anyone had new info on this brand?
