Scared my HD Rocket might be aluminum

Ah, one of the Australian lots. I did see that but I've already got a Rocket HD and an aluminium Rocket HD so it didn't have any interest to me.
For less that sort of money it's a great pick up. If it is the aluminium version and you don't want it you can just put it back on the bay and make a very tidy profit.

Looking at the picture, the handle looks a little too shiny to be the aluminium version.

I thought so too (about the handle looking more nickel than aluminum), but it's good to hear it from someone more knowledgeable. I'm quite surprised I won it at this price, to be honest--I stuck a snipe for AU $35 fully expecting to be outsniped. The HD Rocket is a razor I've been curious about, and it will go nicely with my regular Rocket and my German Parat.

If yours is an aluminum HD, please give it a try before you re-sell it - the light HDs are great... wonderful shavers and different from the heavy HDs.

per Mr-Razor, the anodized gold HD is the lightest at 30g.; the all-aluminum HD is next at 35g.; the aluminum handle HD is next at 57g.; and the heavy HD weighs in at 71g.

I think it looks like the heavy from the pic. I have the last 2 mention by Jon and you can definitely tell when you pick it up, but do weigh it.

Nice Price for the lot.

for whatever it's worth, it looks like a heavyweight to me, too - aluminum HDs look a little more... aluminum-y.

Anyone else ever win an HD rocket on eBay and worry that it might not be the heavy version? I love heavy razors--I'll be pretty upset if it's the lighter version. Here's the auction I won:

Ebay paranoia :001_smile

And even if it is, the Aluminium is rarer than the HD. Keep for the collection or sell it off to finance a HD

Yep I think so too. Especially the double ring head part. Looks too shiny.

If it's an Aluminium and since you'll hate it so much, I'll buy the set off you for what you paid for it if you're disappointed :tongue_sm

Enjoy !!!

I think most of us have preferences for heavy brass handles.

That being said, I have the #58 in both the heavy and light aluminum handle. Although not a pretty, the Al version is a worthy shaver, and a unique experience. It's real zippy, like a miata running across your face.

I must have a dozen heavy HD's, including a rare ringless wonder. They are quite common here in France. If it turns out you have the aluminum model, I would be happy to swap.

Thanks for the trade offer! I'll be posting back here when the package comes--it probably won't be here for another two weeks though, as it's coming from Australia.

Ever get that Rocket? I have what I believe is an aluminum rocket heading my way and I just wondered what the shave was like.. Wanted a HD, but after reading this thread, I might not be disappointed w/ an alum. For anyone: How much rarer are the aluminum models?

It did come a few weeks ago. It weighed in at about 70 or 71g (if I recall correctly), so it's certainly not aluminum. The shave, for me, is similar to a Red Tip--which is a good thing. I like the heft and it feels good in my hand while I use it.

Ah. Good to hear. I'm almost sure the one I have coming is aluminum. But, on the bright side, I have loads of red tips, so maybe this will be a different type of shave for me. Thanks for reporting back -
