SCAM alert

Mods, please feel free to check into this. I just got a scam email from Mark at Superlather. It appears that someone has hacked his email. The content is identical to an email I received when another friend's email was hacked, i.e., stuck in a foreign country, robbed at gunpoint, need money, lost passport, etc. I would email Mark myself but I remember that it took my friend about a week to get the issue resolved with his email provider.

Did anyone else get one of these emails?

Just received the same email:

I'm sorry for this odd request because it might get to you too urgent but it's because of the situation of things right now, I'm stuck in London, United Kingdom right now, i came down here on vacation , i was robbed, worse of it is that bags, cash and cards and my cell phone were stolen at GUN POINT, so i only have access to my email, it's such a crazy and brutal experience for me and i was hurt on my right hand, i need help flying back home, the authorities are not being 100% supportive but the good thing is i still have my passport but don't have enough money to sort the bills and get my flight ticket back home, please i need you to loan me some money, i promise to refund it as soon as I'm back home, you can get it to me through western union.

Kind regards,
Mark

I thought it was quite odd. Has anyone contacted mark to let him know he has been hacked?

This is an old scam. I got the same one about 6 months ago. It was from a neighbor down the road from me. I called him and he said that he had spent the entire day online cleaning up and getting things straightened out. At first I thought it might have been him, as he does travel several times a year.

Mods, can this thread be combined with the one under vendors?

Technically, yes. However, the more places it can be seen, the merrier, so I'm leaving this one active at present.

Thanks again to everyone who has been so helpful today re: this issue. It's definitely a good reminder to set yourself a difficult to poach email password!
