Saving on Shaving...HAHAHA!

There was a video on my local news last night on men worried about the price of new Gillette razors and blades and how they have decided that they best way to thwart the pricing is to buy 300 dollars worth of Mach III blades to keep them good for a few years. I find it funny that they would spend that much on so few blades when you can purchase 100 DE blades from 17-25 dollars (at least if you are trying to stay economical). I just thought how funny it was, that these men are going to great lengths to ensure their blades last when there is a perfectly good alternative. Thoughts?

I've seen similar stories. I don't get it.

If they are so worried about the price of razors, why buy in quantity at FULL PRICE?

DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB

You'd think they'd at least explore the Schick line,
or try the Trac II or Atra blades that are
right next to the Fusion blades at the local big-box*mart

Before making the switch to DE, I considered reverting back to the Sensor or trying Trac II's as the fusions and mach 3 prices were just out of hand. Problem was finding the razor. I looked anytime I was in a drug or grocery store, and never found one laying around.

It was all for the best though, now my blades are pennies, not dollars and my shaves are better all around.

I've never shaved with a Mach III, but some people, even here, do like them. Yes, obviously they cost more per shave than my favorite injectors, but then, I believe they're cheaper than Fusions or Pro-Glides.

It's easy for me to understand stockpiling something you like, though. This whole wetshaving odyssey started for me because I was looking for a source on my favorite (at the time) generic Atra cartridges. They were getting harder to find in local stores. I've moved on to other things, but I still must have at least a hundred of them. Of course, they are only about fifty cents each.

I did that with Sensor carts before I switched to DE.
Sheesh, I was fed up when the price creeped up to just over a buck a cart.

All I know is if I never started saving money on shaving, I'd have a lot more money.

As crazy as it sounds, I stocked up on various brands of pipe tobaccos, enought to last me... well... a very long time. In that time, the price of pipe tobacco has more than doubled and there are further plans to increase prices and limit availability. In addition, some of my favourite brands have been discontinued or are no longer available. I can see why some men would want to hedge their bets and stock up on blades the like and find to fit their shaving habits. The only thing is that I don't think that Mach 3 blades are in jeopardy in the foreseeble future, unless there's something I missed recently.

Fact remains, that if he spent $320 dollars on a straight and hones and strops he'd be set for life, not at most 6 years.

hahahaha this gave me a good laugh - I remember discovering DE shaving and thinking "Wow! I could save so much money!"

8 brushes later...

Ok, so that $300 buys them how many cartridges?
Each cartridge lasts them how long?
(I have never really found the exact comparison of how much more they cost so I am curious).

Guesstimating, but they are about 3 bucks a pop, so 300 bucks would fetch 100 of them, give or take.

If you are lucky, you can get a week's worth of shaves from one, so that would give you slightly less than two years' worth of shaves.

Thanks.
Hahaha, one of my brothers still likes these. I'll have to have a gentlemanly debate about the pros and cons of those things and bring him to "the light".

I only get two shaves from a mach 3, and even then it tugs brand new. I'd go through 182 if I shaved every day.

That's very expensive.
