Saville Row - Made in the USA?

I was under the impression that they were made on the Isle of Man...but I could be wrong.

You may well be thinking of Vulfix, who are definitely based on the Isle of Man. But then... I could be wrong! I can't seem to locate an online retailer here in England.

Savile Row brushes are only sold by QED (www.qedusa.com), a US company. Charles, the proprietor of QED, has these brushes manufactured to his specifications for the Savile Row line of brushes, which he created. There have been numerous debates regarding the actual manufacturer of these brushes. Some think it is Shavemac, some think Vulfix, and others think Kent ... all of which is hearsay. Only Charles and the actual manufacturer know and neither of them seem to be saying a peep.

ooh..That makes my SR3122 seem even more awesome than it already is! Good looking, hard working, and with an air of mystique!

H.L. Thäter - a German brush maker who may or may not have ties with Shavemac (interesting thread about Shavemac and Thäter).

Personally I don't care where a brush is made or who it is made by. I guess it matters to some people.

As long as it's well made, reasonably priced and performs well, who cares?

The two Savile Row brushes I've owned have been exceptional quality-wise, and I believe Charles designs them to his specifications, no matter who makes them for him.

Regards,

John

Velvetgoldmine - let me know how you get on with that 3122! :)

Knowing who makes them will give you a good idea as to the quality. Thats why people care. I don't think I'd buy a branded brush if the vendor wouldn't disclose who made them.

ps, they're Shavemacs/Thaters, whover makes those brushes :wink2:

Regardless of who makes the brushes, they are great and fairly priced. I love the 2824 I purchased, and I would buy another one in silvertip when I raise the capital, and talk my wife into letting me...

Will do, John! Intend to take it on it's maiden voyage tomorrow!

I'm always interested to know where a brush originates - at the moment, most of mine are from the USA, though I have one from Australia (a Simpson, made for export). And a couple of English brushes. Hoping to buy a Plisson one day (French), and mabye a Muehle (German).

I bought my Savile Row about 6-7 years ago off ebay. I paid $20.00 for a pure badger brush, and it says "Made in England."

When I compare the knots, it looks like the Saville Row brushes are from Thaeter in Germany. Beautiful brushes, though, where-ever they from...
