Sandpaper

I bought a package of automotive wet sanding paper containing 4 grits and I still have loads left after 20 or more restorations. I think the sheets were close to 8.5x11".

1) Start with the coarsest grade needed (low numbers are the coarsest).
2) Wet paper and/or handle.
3) Lightly rub the paper on the handle, avoiding repeating the same pattern.
4) When you've removed enough material, switch to the next finer grade (higher number)
5) Repeat until you have a smooth, semi-glossy finish and the scratches have been removed.
6) Finish polishing to a high gloss with a good plastic polish (I like Meguiar's PlastX)

Ok this list goes for wood, metal, and plastic ?

explain step 3 alittle more please. avoid repeating the same pattern. like dont keep doing forward and back strokes switch it up with some circles

Yes, this would apply for any materials. Of course the plastic polishing step would apply only to plastic.

You don't want to sand in one direction only, otherwise you could create patterns in the material matching that direction. Once you start, it'll all become pretty obvious and natural. Just take it slow and work with a light touch...at least until you're confident in what you're doing.
