Sandalwood?

I've seen a number of people reference the sandalwood scent in their posts. Since I live in a rural area and do not have access to a quality shop that carries Taylor of Old Bond Street products, I was wondering if someone could describe the scent. Is it similar to a particular cologne fragrance (other than sandalwood)? And is it good for sensitive skin types? I currently use TOBS Lavender, but would like to try something new.
Many thanks!

i purchased it and quickly sold it to a local buddy. it was too perfumey/incense for me and the family didn't like it either.

i found out quickly, I prefer mostly single scented items, nothing too complex with a variety of scents competing with each other. ie) Lime, Lavender, Coconut etc

It' my favorite sandalwood fragrance although I found it to be not as woody as other sandalwoods I've tried. To me it's a mix of vanilla with wood and spice. Straight from the tub it has a very strong fragrance that some find overpowering but while lathering it softens to a nice gentle aroma.

I traded away my ToBS sandalwood because it was the only cream I ever used that irritated my skin - it just burned. In its place I got a tube of AoS sandalwood, a gentler scent with a more "traditional" sandalwood profile, woody-spicy instead of woody-herbal. The Cyril Salter sandalwood is somewhere in between, and provides a tremendously thick lather with only a small amount of cream.

I am a fan of the TOBS Sandalwood, though I too prefer the Proraso Red... it's just more of a solid scent. never tried AOS, sad to say lol

I'm on an Almond kick now though, thanks to Cella and Dr Harris's Almond. yummmmmmmm

Smelled but not used the AOS sandalwood. Use and love the Proraso Red and it is, to my schnozz, the closest to what real sandalwood smells like.

Try them both .

The sandalwood scent I most liked was that of Fitjar (sp.?). Unfortunately, it irritated my skin, not terribly but noticeably, so I traded with someone else who has a tougher face. If it doesn't bother your skin, the soap's scent is heavenly. I'd put it ahead of AOS, though AOS is kinder to my skin and I use it often. Sounds as if Proraso red is worth a try.

TOBS sandalwood isn't like most sandalwoods - it's more of a cross between mouldy leaves, fresh sawdust and stale tobacco smoke.

I find TOBS sandalwood SC to be an excellent and consistent performer with a very pleasant scent. My wife likes it as well.

Regards,

Doug

I found the Proraso Sandalwood & Shea butter to be a very fake, synthetic scent, almost revolting and to much like cheap cologne, and my favorite is Queen Charlotte Soaps Mysore Sandalwood.

AOS Sandlewood is the best i,ve found YMMV

+1 To AOS Sandalwood. I used it exclusivley for a month-ish. I let the smell marinate in my brush so I could sneak by the bathroom from time to time and get a wiff! Hands down my favorite Sandalwood scent!

I just received a sample pack of sandalwood creams and shaved with the TOBS this morning. I enjoyed the scent and performance, nice shave. I'll shave with the Salters tomorrow. Out of the container, this is the scent that appeals to me the most and finish with Trumpers on Monday. I also have AoS sandalwood shaving soap and enjoy using it too. To my nose the AoS is the strongest scented of the bunch and probably the truest sandalwood. I find all the scents different but nice.
