What's new

Same blade brand, different razor, different endurance?

So I'm still a DE newbie, having been doing it for a week and a half. Have 5 Gillette razors, been experimenting with the first two. Using one when I'm at home and the other when I travel. Until a couple days ago when my order finally came in, the only razor blades I had was a supermarket generic 10 pack I picked up when I bought the razors. One blade from the same pack in each of the two razors I've been using. Last night, after about 6 shaves, one side on my home razor (a gold Aristocrat, I think. It is a 3-piece) finally went dull and I had to start on the other side. Tonight, while away, one size on my nickel TTO non-adjustible razor (much newer) just went dull after only 3 shaves.

Is this coincidence? I've been using a straight razor for a year and a half, so I haven't had any problems adapting my technique. I've gotten very good shaves since day one. Is there an explanation for why two blades from the same package in two different razors are lasting different durations?

Blade performance often varies greatly from razor to razor. May be, the angle one razor holds it at dulls it more. But 3 good shaves from a blade really do pay for it.
