Safety razor convert, now obsessed

Thank you for the warm welcome guys. This seems like a great community

Been there!

You definitely seem like a hardware kind of guy--I tend to lean that direction, too. Maybe it's a carryover from your interest in cars, or maybe you just conveniently forgot to show the 48 pucks of shaving soap you've got

Welcome to a great place online.

That's pretty accurate. They are shiny precision engineered instruments. I use the Proraso shave cream in sandalwood and have my eye on a soap made by an artisan that I buy hand soap and shampoo from but I am not due to place an order quite yet Shaving Soap - https://www.wildgrove.co.uk/store/c7/Shaving_Soap.html

I wrench on my Maserati mostly out of necessity as they are expensive on maintenance/repairs, although I stick within my capabilities as I got my specialist technician to replace the clutch a while back. Over the last 5 years of Maser ownership my toolbox has multiplied in size. When a job comes round I often obsess over which tools to buy some times buy used Snap-on if its within budget if not Facom or similar

I think you’ll find that not many of us are “obsessed” around here. Take me for example—I’ve gone almost a week without purchasing a razor. And I could probably, right off the top of my head, tell you close to half of the razors I’ve purchased in the last year, since it’s been well under 50. And I’ve probably checked in on B&B no more than a half dozen times today. This sort of casual interest is common here. Welcome!

I am snuffing out a lead on an English fat handled tech... Just checked and it had been a week since the last buy so I'm all good, right?

Yes, you’re fine. I just remind myself that I can stop anytime I want.

Spent the day cleaning up my first vintage TTO to arrive

D2 1958 Flaretip Rocket - made in USA. I picked it up from ebay for £10. Some plate loss and the doors do not quite open evenly but I believe it is good for a shave

Side by side with my Merkur 39C I can see why they call it the sledgehammer

If you are into cleaning, try out regular aerosol shaving foams. Those cans have just the right chemicals to delime your shaving kit! Try starting on such a soft descaler first, you'll be surprised with the results.

By all means try the soap. However one thing to bear in mind is that although their hand/bath soap might be very good, shaving soap is a different beast altogether. A lot of artisan soap makers seem to think that adding betonite to their usual soap makes an adequate shave soap. If it is the case where you don't like it and relegate the soap to hand use, you won't be the first nor last to do so.

Let us know how the soap works.

Interesting information there thank you for sharing.

I have a stack of their hand soap for now I am not not ordering because their postage is a little steep if it's under £25. When I come round to it I will of course report back.
