Hey I spotted a nice razor she said...here is a pic. Yes indeed Mrs. S! So she snapped it up and brought it home! Man, I love that Mrs. S!!! It virtually is new and appears that it may have been used maybe once. CLEAN!
That's a beauty! And the razor is pretty nice too![emoji6]

Looks like a 54 tv special. Is it a Z date code? If so, you did great.

@KeenDogg thanks a lot !!! It’s actually a Y date code ? Is that good or bad ? It’s a 53’ right ? Was one better than the other ? When it said “TV special with the included brochure , I thought it was some type of marketing

Thanks again,

I'm not sure when exactly the TV specials started. I thought 54 which would be a Z. But it may be possible for a Y4 to be a TV special as well. Gillette was never known to waste anything!

Hey guys , I looked again and my code is Y2 , also when I look up the tv special the bottom of the handle seems different , it doesn’t have a flare tip( does this matter) . When I go to razor emporium it says the Y is a 1953 “executive model” but nothing about the 2( the quarter in which it was made) I’m confused .

I believe the TV Specials were 54 and 58. To my eyes and in use the Z and the Y were identical. I'm no expert just going by what I have read over the years.

the 54 TV Special is a 40s style Super-Speed and comes in a blue case, the 58 TV Special is a flare tip Super-Speed with special knurling and comes in a red case.

What you have is a 1958 TV case with instruction and a "normal" 40s style Super-Speed from 1953 and the Platinum Plus blades from the late 60s - it´s a mismatch, but all nice!

Aaah! The blue case. I always forget about it. Thanks, Achim.

Great looking Aristocrat, congratulations.

Gentlemen, sometimes it actually pays off to reach for the stars! - Recently I put up a note on the BST to acquire a #19 Brit Aristocrat set. A serious long shot for sure as these 1st generation open combs in gold are very rare beasts to come up for sale. But look what happened! - A generous B&B member reached out so here it is - delivered today from the US! Thank you so much, you-know-who!

Razor is in perfect condition, may have been replated at some point in its long life but then it is a superb job as I cannot find a single fault on it even when I scan places where a replate usually will show (such as between the teeth). Wow, just like it rolled off the assembly line at Gillette in the UK sometime during the 1930s. I am stoked!

The case on the other hand has taken a few beatings during the last 80 years, I really need to apply some TLC for sure. And it may even be a #20 case... On top, the blade banks have gone AWOL, but thankfully I have two period correct ones which will now go to Chris Evatt for replating in gold.

And all in all, who’s counting, one can’t be too picky when it comes to the rarest of the rare. I am so happy to add this to my growing family of Anglo Aristocrats :)

I got a Fine Marvel razor & a all brass Bokër razor which is the same as an Schone, love my Fatips so thought i'd try one as i sold a few razors lately, the nickel plated finish is nice with very little imperfections, the beefier fatter teeth look nice. What sorcery is this?:a11: Everytime i put in a blade it aligns perfectly every single time, normally my luck hasn't been so good with my Fatips some skew the blade & sometimes its impossible to get both sides even, no matter how i load the blade can be frustrating if you are OCD like me.

Due to the lovely nickel finish taking pics using the flash makes the razor look black.

Shaving with Marvel today because i wanted to try it for so long but can't wait to try the Bokër eventually.

@Northstonehill Peter, great get from a fellow member, that had to be tough for them to give up!

You mentioned our friend Chris at razorplate....and oddly enough, my E3 fatboy was returned from his shop today. I just can't imagine sending a razor to anyone else (obviously Cap is included in there :) )

So, some before and after pictures, because its the only way to see how much effort, and the outcome (and the shear quality of it):

BEFORE (note the extreme brass rot that was uncovered after I cleaned it up, pitting was not pretty...and the tray was actually sharp from the brass rot):
IMG_0076.JPG IMG_0092.JPG taelen112_E3_2.JPG

AFTER (note, you can't even tell there was that severe of brass rot/pitting. I'm left speechless by Chris' work)
IMG_20190528_125524.jpg IMG_20190528_125539.jpg IMG_20190528_125650.jpg IMG_20190528_125600.jpg IMG_20190528_125615.jpg

Will be shaving with it today, and it only has to be half as good as it looks, and I'll be happy with the shave. Standards and all.... :)

also of note, no loss to the definition and feel of the knurling, etc on the handle, tto knob, or adjustment knob.

I got this for pretty cheap, it may need some replating but nonetheless well worth what I paid . This is a W-1 so that means it’s a 1951 correct ?
