I wandered around seven antique stores today. Almost no shaving related items at all, until...

What's in the bag?
Not Gwyneth Paltrow's head.

Hello there, you...dirty...thing. I picked this poor guy up for the express purpose of learning how to clean a really old razor.

That is a fantastic find. Do I spy King Gillette written on the baseplate.

When you get a chance look at the Mr Razor website. A must to have in your computers favourites. The best place to to date a Gillette razor with plenty of photos to compare against what you are trying to date. Well worth a look.

Well now. It has a visible serial number on the barrel within the handle of A374### and does match the 1908 listing for the signed Single Ring. Whoa!

Have a look for the serial number on it and you will be able to work out the year it was manufactured.

Just be gentle, others who have found similar razors will chime in and advise on the best way to clean it up. It should clean up pretty well, you will be surprised.

I also have no idea of the significance of that. =D

Hello,

the signature was an early "trademark" in 1908, just before the diamond was invented. Bit similar to the ABCs with diamond logo on the top cap. Quite rare/collectable.

It came from eBay Canada, interesting trying to converse with the seller in French when I don’t speak French. The price was right for me. The postage was almost the same price as the razor. That is the trouble here in Australia, the cost of postage can kill a sale. It also came with 4 Berkeley Blades which I have never heard of before.

Well done!

Came across a cased fat boy in an antique store Wednesday. Date code G1. Initially the adjustment plate didn't move very well, but after some dish soap soaks, everything moves freely and works.

Had my first shave with it this morning. Got a good shave. It may take a bit to get used to the weight.

Starting to build my collection, and these three razors arrived in the mail today: A Gillette Fatboy, an Adjustable Slim and a NEW.

I am so excited. I wanted to share at least a picture with the gang here!

Cheers,
Michael
Those three are almost all you need. Congratulations!
