REAL Gillette - unlike the Heritage, it's branded

Looks identical to the Ying Jili Tech Clone.

Hi all,

I've been on a roll and have found a LOT of Razors over the last couple of weeks (all vintage) in the wild. Today however, I couldn't resist buying this (budget) Chinese WEISHI SHAVING company Razor for eight dollars NEW! (no box) from a "Salvage Store".

(near) perfect 1948 Gillette Australian Tech set no77.

The poutch and canisters with brushes are unknown to me. More info is welcome.

Set came with 3 used blades datecode T1 ( 1e quarter 1948) and by the looks of it that's possibly all the action this set has seen.

I received two wonderful French razors a little more than a week ago. One was a NOS LeCoq Cage head and the other a nice user Famex that came with an additional head. A friend on another board suggested a Rockwell top cap which would be compatible with any standard razor handle. When the cap arrived I grabbed an extra Ikon Barberpole handle I had and voila, FrankenFamex! Ironically, I think I prefer the balance and heft of the FrankenFamex to the real deal! Go figure!

Enjoy your shaves,

Jeff

Compare the two side by side and see if you think the Rockwell cap changes the blade angle. Hard to say for sure but my impression was a milder shave with the substitute cap. Weber and Fatip handles will work with the original Famex cap .

Will do! I have a Fatip handle. As we can see, the original cap extends farther towards the edge of the head. Would that result in a milder shave?

Nice, but it's not "Australian", I suspect the first ID came from the australian price list, so it became Australian, but it was available everywhere where the British company was present. It"s basicalyy the first British closed comb three piece introduced in 1947.
Two brushes in one travel set look bogus, but those are nice, so lucky you.

Haven’t posted here in a very long while - my sources (or wishes) have dried up, sadly...

...However this beauty arrived today from my good friend Thomas - a minty 2nd generation British Aristocrat, rare Australian(?) version with maroon leatherette interior. And with a shipper! - My very first Aristocrat shipper!

I will take utmost care of this, sir!!

Picked up a 'No Name' Vintage 3-Piece SB DE. The seller stated "Made in Germany" but there are zero markings on any part of the razor to indicate manufacturer, country of origin, etc..

Has some slight similarities to a Tech in appearance. Cool and surprisingly substantial handle.

In practice, it shaves like a tech - narrow angle, ride the cap, etc. The shave was comfortable and I got a DFS with three passes plus some touch-up and buffing.

Doubt if it will make my Top Tier Rotation but it was very reasonably priced and I couldn't resist.

Does anybody have any idea what this razor could be?

Hi Adam,

I guess your right. I found this set in the United Kingdom so it probably never left the country after production.
I'm not too keen on non original accessories but I will keep the set as whole. The brushes are unused but the (boar) hairs are very brittle and tend to snap if bend to much.

No makers name or branding on the pouch and cinisters or brushes.

Thanks for the additional info.

I don’t seem to be able to hold back when it comes to Anglosaxon Aristocrat sets - this morning sealed a deal on this one, let’s call it a Christmas present for myself

1st generation set in great condition inside and out - I seem to recall that this is a case/set combo made for the Australian market but I could be wrong.
