Saddleback Trifold Large and All-ETT Executive Initial Impressions

Must be "Leather Month" . :blushing:

Yesterday received a Daines and Hathaway Military Wet pack from a fellow GSL member ( Thanks Glenn :biggrin1: ) and in todays mail received a Saddleback Trifold Large ( with the much appreciated help of johnmrson ) and replacement All-Ett Executive

This is just a quick post to give you my initial impressions of both wallets. For a more "detailed" review of the All-Ett after a bit of use see the link above.

So... the first thing you notice about the All-Ett is how it's shipped. It's shipped in a standard envelope.

You sure there's a wallet in there...?

Without the envelope:

So what's the first thing you notice about the Saddleback? The quality and thickness of the leather. This is obviously a quality piece of hide here. It's gonna last a long...long time !!!!!

Width and length wise it's only slightly wider than the All-Ett (on top )

But that's pretty much where the similarity ends sizewise:

The card slots are laid out exactly the same on both wallets, 4 pouches that you stack your cards in. The All-Ett is said to hold 20-30 cards ( 5-6 per slot ) and the Saddleback 16 cards ( 4 per slot ) .

The card slots for the Saddleback are pretty tight at the moment holding 4 cards per pocket but I'm sure they'll loosen up with time.

( Oooh, look at that convenient glare :001_smile )

So here's the Saddleback fully loaded with pretty much the same stuff as the All-Ett .

So both beautiful wallets in their own way.

As mentioned in my other review, I almost never put my wallet in my back pocket. Having one cheek inches higher than the other certainly isn't good for your body.

I certainly won't be putting the Saddleback in my back pocket except in the most emergency of emergency situations. Perhaps I've been "spoilt" by the thinness of the All-Ett which will go in the back pocket and not be felt.

I'll try and post more on the Saddleback as time goes on. :biggrin1:

I was thinking about getting a Saddleback wallet recently, however their shipping costs are ridiculous considering I wanted the $30 small wallet. The shipping price was a whopping $11 and under no circumstances should the shipping cost equate to 25-30% of the total price. I sent them an e-mail that stated they were better off using USPS Priority mail as opposed to UPS Ground. Priority mail is $4.95 for their smaller products (wallets, mousepads, etc.) and that is 2-3 day shipping. 1-6 day UPS ground shipping is $11 and could take up to twice as long. Saddleback definitely lost a potential customer on one of their more expensive items because of it.

Cost of wallet..$55US...cost of shipping to Australia......$56US !!!!! :scared:

Note that if you click "This address is a PO / APO box." the shipping does get reduced. It changed Australian shipping to $27US ( still too much in my opinion for 1 wallet ). Don't know how "valid" it is doing this, but it was actually suggested to me by one of the Saddleback staff :001_smile

I would have been happy if they'd used small USPS International Flat Rate Box for $13.95US ( could have fit 3-4 wallets in that ) but they stood by their decision of using UPS saying that they wanted to ensure delivery because they were a highly "stealable" item. I can understand this to some extent.

In the end Pauls51 and I shared shipping costs and used johnmrson's US forwarding service, hence the call out to John in the introduction.

Their postage costs must certainly be effecting their sales though !!!!

Indeed I think their postage does cost them business. I can understand that they want to ensure things get where they are going the postage cost is ridiculous. I've probably bought upwards of 300 items from the US in the last 12 months and never lost one. As Mr_Amazing said, even their US postage cost is expensive.
