Sad day for Big Blue

This is truly a sad day for those who love and follow the NEW YORK Football Giants. Not only am I saddened by what occurred and feel for the young lady(?), I also am saddened by the actions of one of the greatest linebackers to ever play the game.

I thought that he had overcome his demons and his life was moving in a positive direction. Even when you have all the talent in the world and make boatloads of money, once the music stops and you have to deal with real life, the true measure of a champion is taken.

RIP to the man I once respected.

It's awful news. He will have his day in court over this, I am sure. It will be something to see how this all plays out.

My goodness, I really, really want to know what it is about football, why are such a huge number of professional football players involved in criminal behavior? You look at basketball and it occurs sometimes but to a lesser extent, and in baseball to a much, much lesser extent.

It's really become rediculous when today the reality is that scouts have to consider a prospect's character issues just as highly as their ability to play the sport.

Like Ben Roethlesberger, if you actually read the reports of what he's been accused of, it's just appalling, disgusting behavior.

I guess you live in a fantasy world where everyone worships you and gives you whatever you want and it becomes very difficult to have any sense of integrity of ethics.

But that still doesn't explain why it is so prevalent in football vs. other professional sports.

It's a sad day indeed. This one hurts. For those of you not in the know, LT is like the Babe Ruth of NY football. Long after his playing days - he retired 17 years ago - nobody gets a more enthusiastic and ardent reception from fans. You can't go to a Giants game without seeing thousands, if not tens of thousands, of Taylor #56s in the crowd. The guy has the kind of presence that captivates an audience. It's uncanny. There's no act or rehearsed charm or haughty aloofness or strained humility. He just is - or was.

I'm still holding out hope that their is a favorable explanation to all of this. At least, one that doesn't involve him doing what he has been charged with doing. While I'll always admire what he did on the football field, my proclivities as a fan could never extend to absolution for this alleged act. Let's see how it plays.

By the way, the hotel is 15 min. from me and the police station is 10 min. from me.

I am so saddened by this story that I'm going to break one of the longstanding, hard and fast rules we have here. I do so because try as I might, I can find no other words to express how I feel regarding the downfall of this icon. I'll delete this if there's a single complaint.

Drugs **** you up. :frown2:

Terrible if it's true and tragic if it's not. People with his ammount of money and status need to keep themselves as far away from situations like this as possible so no one can say they did anything they didn't etc.

LT was one of my favorites. Sadly, his post-football life has been littered with drugs and violence. He will get his day in court and he will deserve the consequences of his actions.

When he retired, John Madden made the comment that he felt he was the best player to ever play the game -- not the best linebacker or the best defensive player -- the best player! He completely changed the way quarterbacks had to read a defense. I remember in the 80's when the players went on strike, he was one of the few that stuck around, and played both sides of the ball. I've been trying my best to disassociate his post-retirement activity from his on-the-field legend, but it just keeps getting worse. I'm praying he's merely the victim of some kind of extortion here, even if I don't really believe it.

"Without you, there would have been a Lawrence Taylor, but there would not have been an L.T. and I thank you for that" - Lawrence Taylor

When I heard him make that speech at Giants Stadium, he went from someone I admired (from a talent perspective) growing up to someone that admired him for what I knew of his character. All of the revelations that came out after that, have all saddened me. This one tops the list... sickening if true :frown:

For what it's worth, gossip site TMZ is reporting the girl has told police her pimp ordered her to tell LT she was 19. Even if he was under the impression she was 19 it was still stupid of him to get involved with a prostitute, but at least there's a chance he was duped on the age part.
