Sacrilegious?!?!!

I get the feeling it's blasphemous to mention the likes of the use of a fusion, but anyone use one for a final quick touch ups?
For the life of me I can't seem to get my neck perfect without a singe fusion swipe left to right... that always results with a bloody mess with my DE. I figure the fusion blade will last forever since it's only shaving 3 sq inches of well softened stragglers.

Welcome to Badger and Blade.

I used to use that blade on the back of the Fusion cartridge for sideburns and under the nose, but have not done that in a while. Do whatever works for you and as your technique improves, you might find you no longer need the Fusion touch up.

I still use my Mach3 to shave the back of my neck. The Mach3 sucks, but it's almost impossible to cut yourself with it. And given that I'm shaving the back of my neck blindly, it just seems like a good idea. Not the place for my straight...

To extend its life, make sure to dry that Fusion blade thoroughly. My pre-DE blade was a Sensor Excel, and I used to get several months of 4-5 shaves per week out of a single cartridge by drying it on a towel.

I learned this tip listening to Clark Howard, who interestingly has never mentioned DE shaving as a way to save money. Perhaps he already knows about the budget busting effects of AD.

Tommy --

If you continue to use the DE for shaving the neck, you will come to a solution and learn how to do it.

I've always said, "You cannot learn to shave with a DE by using a cartridge razor".

Throw away the crutch, get on with learning how to shave the neck. Hang in there.

While most of us prefer not to deal with the cartridges, it's kind of whatever works best for you. I use a Trac II when I travel. Not my favorite, but get's the job done. Especially if you use a brush and some good lather along with a nice hot towel.

Have you seen Mantic59's advanced blade techniques video? I use J-hooking to get hairs where I can't tell which way those hairs are growing, and blade buffing against the grain for those hairs where I do know the direction they grow. Using these for touch-up passes, I go from a damn fine shave with patches of rough spots, to baby's butt smooth without irritation.

Welcome to B&B!

I probably would be using mine for touch ups but I threw it out when I got my new gear. Oh well, I will just have to settle for some small bits of stubble until I figure it out. Good luck to you, and I don't think there is anything wrong with using a little M3 now and again.

given time the solution will come to you.

When the Fusion first came out, he went on and on about how great it was. I stopped listening to him when he mentioned that he buys his trophy wife 2 new Jaguars a year.

Welcome to B&B!!!!

I couldn't agree more. I did the exact same thing when I started, just don't lean on it too much, only use it for touch ups while you get your technique down.

I thought I would keep using mine forever, but after two or three weeks, I was doing so well with the DE, I just didn't need it, plus I enjoy shaving with the DE more, so I was motivated to get rid of the cartridge.

Keep at it, enjoy yourself and take your time on your shaves.
