Rust Removal

I received my whippedog sight unseen razor combo yesterday. It looks sharp as can be! Cant wait to shave with it. One issue, I want to remove the rust. It has alot of rust. I am not complaining. I got a great deal. Seeing as how I am deployed, I feel it will have special meaning to me. So, Id like to take care of it and have it forever. I have searched rust removal, some use chemicals. Being in afghanistan and a FOB, and sometimes a COP, I dont have the ability to get to alot of things resources to remove the rust. One man recommended (his father used it in the 50s in Egypt) sand and motor oil. After the blade dulls a bit, I am considering this.

Is this a good/bad idea?

Any other recomendations? I really want to have this in my collection for the rest of my life (and it be serviceable).

And tonight I am going to let the whipped dog razor loose on my ugly mug.

congrats on your first straight and well done going with the Whipped Dog setup. I started my addiction the same way.

I recently picked up a razor with a fair amount of rust on it and I just went to town on it with some wet-dry sandpaper and some water or wd-40. I got it on amazon.
I started with 220 and made my way up to 2000 but I have some 2500 I haven't gotten around to yet as well. the key is to just take it slow and don’t move up to the next grit until you're certain that you've gone as far as you can with the current grit. it’s all very time consuming
if you PM me your address I'll send you some, my treat. I bought way more than I needed. plus its free for me to mail it since my address is an APO as well.

What part of Afghanistan are you in? My last trip out there I was all over Zabul province.
stay safe over there brother!
