Rubberset 400 brush questions and help

I have a Rubberset 400 brush and love the way it looks. The brush seems to be in good shape but I am not able to make good lather with it and do not know why. The hair is different then any other brush I have used.

Are people around here able to use these old brushes or do they always reknot them?

I am also having trouble finding out the age of the brush.

Also what does the number stamped on the collar mean?

If you are having trouble with it, get rid of it quick. I can dispose of it for you.

The knot you have there is boar. Usually, they get reknotted. Get a TGN finest 2 band fan.

The number indicates the size, if I am not mistaken. I have a #3 and #4 is larger.

It would be great to find an equivalent looking boar knot for this but I haven't found one quite like it. They really are quite the lookers.
