Royal Warrants and American Warrants

In this post one can read that Kent's royal warrant is to the Queen In a thread where some were saying the upcoming "Jessica" LE '09 brush is feminine, I see that Kent's warrant is an indisputably feminine tie-in.

I found this list of purveyors on Wapedia. I saw Floris and Penhaligons DR Harris and Crabtree & Evelyn there amongst others.

There are a few Scotches that have royal warrants. Laphroaig is Prince Charles.' Chivas Regal has one and Royal Brackla says they were the first. I have a friend who identifies the most desirable Laphroaig "dusty" bottles by being from the pre-warrant era (before 1994).

I was pleased to see Tabasco as the hot sauce (Lea & Perrins is there, but it's not hot sauce).

If we had American Warrants who would get them? TGQ got a purveyor's award from the State of West Virginia, but that's as close as I know of in the US of A.

When I'm the King of America, this'll be the start of my list:

Hot Sauce - Tabasco (both sides of the pond!)
Bourbon - Van Winkle
Rye - Sazerac
Brandy - Germain Robain (Reagan's favorite gift to ambassadors)
Barbecue, West - Arthur Bryant's, Kansas City
Barbecue, East - Lexington Barbecue
Workwear - Carhartt (wouldn't it be American to have a warrant for Carhartt? Would they custom tailor?)

Being America, all kinds of things could be warranted. Clinton might have warranted McDonalds (Warlords intercept the food aid!). We could have a warrant for Nascar team (I just wish it could be Ricky Bobby's), or TGIFridays.

What would be on your list of Warrants, were you King of America?

I will at least second Dogfish Head. Might go so far as to specify 60-minute. Haven't tried 90- or 120(?)-minute. I think I am a little scared by them! I do know the 60-minute is great beer and not just because of its elevated alcohol content. The extra hops flavor is fantastic.

I bought a case of 60 last year and it was excellent. I've only had one 4-pack(odd....) of 90 minute and it was pretty good too although I don't know if it was THAT much better. However, I don't know i'd pay the $20 for a single bottle of 120....

Silly me.

I thought that a "Dogfish" theme coupled with an enthusiast from "the Last Frontier" must be a reference to Alaskan Chum. It appears from their site it's a Delaware/Maryland/Virginia thing.

My mind had been racing with what types of beer "Sockeye" and "Humpy" would have been! Of course, we all know what at least one ingredient of what would have been in "Chinook."

See, you fellas you could have shared in the offical royal warrants but no. You decided to go and make a really big brew in the sea with our lovely tea bags or some such and then decided to jolly well go your own way. :001_tt2:

I shudder to think of what would have become of our sublime Kentucky Bourbon if we had remained British subjects. A taste like a cross of Famous Grouse and Old Raj, I would fear (Grousey Raj?). :crying:

And Howling Wolf sounding like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins? No thank you.

No, it was all worth it.

I have gotten the single bottles of the 120 for $7.50, and a fellow who recently celebrated his 21st now hates me. "So, that's what beer is supposed to taste like."

BUT, you can still get four packs of Dogfish Palo Santo Marron for under $15 here in Jersey. If you haven't tried it, do it. It is like fine, smooth, aged whisky without a preponderance of alcohol taste. Quite simply the best beer I have ever had. Period.

OK -- gonna have to try that one! That's how I felt about the 60-minute. Kinda like everyone else has been cheating me with sub-standard beer all these years.
