I picked this up for 8 euros was in bit of a mess when i got it. But with a feather gives a great shave. It has the letter m beneath the head. Does anyone know the age of the razor?
As far as I know Gillette bought that german company 'Rotbart' in the 1920ies. Rotbart razors were famous in germany then. These come up on german ebay often. Today there are russian made Rotbart blades available made by P&G in St. Petersburg. Nice blades IMO.
After Gillette bought that company they made blades and razors in the factory in Berlin until in the 1970ies. Late Rotbart razors were simply rebranded Gillette razors.
Out of all the razors which i have got over the past few months , i think this one for me is the best. I love the Ed Jagger 89 also Gillette 74 black beauty, but the Rotbart gets it a tad closer. Anyone else a have this as there no.1? Also any takers on the year?
I´ve got one exactly like yours and it´s a great shaver
Gillette bought Rotbart ind the early 1930´s (1933 i think) but they did continue using the rotbart brand in germany up until the 70´s even on some of their Gillette models the slim twist being one example.
Because they made this model in the 20´s, 30´s and early 40´s and using both names ( after 1933) on this, it´s almost impossible to tell when it´s from, if you´ve got the case that might be a hint of the age, if it´s a painted tin case, it should be from the period 27-33, but i´m not 100% sure
