so i'm 19 goin on 20. and i have yet to reach that point in life where i enjoy beer or have acquired the taste... but i must say that i love rootbeer. more than any other carbonated beverage. anyone else love rootbeer? what are your favorite brands?

I'm a root beer addict. My favorite are Virgil's & Boylan. Sioux City and Thomas Kemper are pretty good too.

any difference between root beer and sarsparilla?
Root beer (at least traditionally) was brewed from sassafras. Sarsparilla is a different plant. Tastes pretty much the same, though.
Virgil's Root Beer is the best I can find locally - but the king is Henry Weinhardt's.
I like beer but have only recently discovered root beer. i'm trying to lay off of it for awhile as it's not very healthy to drink on a daily basis. I tend to drink the commercial stuff like Mug, A&W or Barq's. I like ICB rootbeer as well
IBC does make a good Rootbeer.

IBC nice and frosty- although Stewarts' isn't half bad. Hank's is nice too, but pricey.
I also recommend Fentiman's Ginger Beer, if you can find it- that stuff is addictive. It's one of the few things I genuinely miss from the UK.

Abita and Appalachian rootbeer are my alltime favorites. Rootbeer has to be consumed at an alomst freezing temperature in my opinion, plue a frosty mug 
1919 Rootbeer made by Schell's Brewery, only available in kegs. Good stuff if/when you can get it!

I remember from a previous root beer thread that Hires got a lot of praise. I just found a source locally and may have to check it out.

Route 66 is awesome root beer if you can find it
1) It's gotta have REAL sugar, not High Fructose Corn Syrup.

I don't drink it all the time, but more of a treat kind of thing. I don't really care for sugared sodas, but root beer is the exception!
